Thank you for a very comprehensive response. I'll save this rundown for my Marion
County file. I'll probably have to get the library to look up the one I want because
I don't go to Indy unless I must.
Are you saying they don't have a simple card file for the obits they do have?

The State Library has obits for many counties I've got them for others and myself
for Clark, Vigo Co, Marion, and even Louisville Papers. I think they even have some
Chicago ones too. It's best if you know the exact dates for Obits, otherwise they will
not look them up for you, and if you pay a researcher, they will charge you for their time
as I have to.
Indiana Newspaper Holdings Guide by County: The county newspaper holdings are under
regular revision, as new microfilm holdings are added. These files are not up to date;
there are continious updates and corrections.
Indianapolis Newspaper Index, 1848-1888: Database to locate select articles from
1848-1888 from Indianapolis daily newspapers; heavily focused on deaths and marriages.
Indianapolis Newspapers Index, 1898-1978: Database to locate select articles from
1898-1978 about people, places, events, and topics in Indianapolis and the state of
Indiana. Extremely limited for deaths; no coverage of marriages. Card file also available
in the Microforms Area, second floor.
Indianapolis Newspaper Index, 1979-1991: Database to locate select articles from the
Indianapolis Star and Indianapolis News; limited coverage of deaths, no marriages.
