Hello Listers,
Does anyone recognize these pastors' names?
All three were Marion Co. marriages, most likely in Indianapolis:
03 January 1874 marriage conducted by Aug. BESSOMIS, Pastor
16 Nov 1881 marriage conducted by D. O. DONAHEU (does not specify whether he
is clergy or not)
13 Jan 1896 marriage conducted by Jos. F. WEBER, Pastor
Here's some info; didn't type the whole paragraph!
"The first Catholic Church in Indianapolis was built in 1840."
"It was called Holy Cross Church, and was situated near West between
Washington and Market Streets."
"Father Gueguen was succeeded by the Rev. Daniel Moloney, who in 1857,
built an addition to the church. This same year the Rev. A. Bessonies
took charge of the congregation, a position which he still retains."
The book further states the accounting of the Catholic Churches and
Institutions of Indianapolis was furnished for the book by the Rev.
Dennis O'Donoughue, cancellor of the diocese. I would think this to be
the same person you listed as D. O. DONAHEU.
Above from "History of Indianapolis and Marion County, Indiana" by B. R.
Sulgrove, (L. H. Everts & Co.: Philadelphia. 1884), p. 406.
The WEBER was not listed, but the date of this publication is 1884.
Hope this helps!
