Dear Lora,
Some months ago you looked up Konrad marriages for me. Included was the
marriage of my Grandparents, John Robert Konrad and Katharina ( Katie )
Mootz. You listed the document number 26 675 4084 and the date of 23
July 1895. . Previously I had a volunteer living in Marion County Indiana
research for this marriage and reported, no such record existed.
I recently wrote asking for copies of the Marriage Application and/or
marriage license and received the folowing reply: " I checked from
1891-1895 and no records were located. SORRY." This search was made by
personnel in the City Archives &Records section in the City/County Bldg.
in Indianapolis, IN. I am dumbfounded by this response. I will inquire
whether this document number does not exist and whether there was such a
document issued but lost.
My question to you is does your CD indicate the source of the information
on marriages?
In my original info from the 1900 and 1910 Federal Censuses, I had two
conflicting marriage dates based on years married. They were 1890 and
1895. Based on the birth of my oldest Uncle in Sept. 1896, I had guessed
it would be 1895. Then mid year last year when the Ellis Island records
came on line I found my Grandmother Katharina arrived at Ellis Island in
May 1894. I was elated when you found the marriage record because it was
going to allow me to get a source document that hopefully would unlock
the biggest blank I have on my ancestors - Where was my Grandfather born
and when?
I certainly believe there was a record of this marriage by virtue of the
document #, the names and the date in the right range of Dates. I am not
sure where to go next other than another inquiry relative to the
existence of the document number. Do you have any suggestions?
