I just sent a message to the Archivist for the Archdiocese to se if she
recognizes the name. What couple are you researching? If we can find them
in the 1857 directory, that should give us a clue as to where they lived.
St. Mary's was considered the German church and St. John's was considered
the parish for the Irish.
St. John the Evangelist 1837
St. Mary's 1858
It looks like it was probably St. John's.

Subject: [MARION COUNTY, IN] ?Do you know this Priest"1853?
Hello List,
We just received the Marriage License from Marion County, for who we believe
to be our GGGrandparents.
The year is 1853. The paper is very dark. It is signed by the Clerk of the
Circuit Court and under that it is signed by "I, the undersigned, Priest of
the Catholic Church" etc. His signature looks something like DAVID
DELATORY...this may be a stretch, however, I have every confidence that
someone on this list has seen this name before and can help decipher. We
know our people lived in Marion County and their first child was born there
in 1855..if we can find this Priest, then the Church and ...well, you know!
Any and all assistance will be much appreciated.
