I saw Bill Dollarhide speak on State Censuses about 2 weeks ago. For all of
IN he wrote this on his handout:
Indiana: 1807 territorial. No state. Tax lists provide substititues.
He did write a census book (I think it's called "The Census Book.")
Perhaps
there's more info in there.
In "State Censuses" prepared by Henry J. Dubester, Washington D.C., 1948
(reprinted in 1990) I could find no references to state censuses for IN.
In "State Census Records," by Ann S. Lainhart, pp. 40-41 does give some
history of the IN state censuses and what exists. It says that they are NOT
complete for every county EXCEPT Hendricks and Jennings in 1853. They are
at the state library in Indianapolis. She lists:
1857: Hartford City, Blackford Co.
1871: Scattered twps, Blackford Co.
1877: Scattered twps, Blackford Co. Five twps of Fayette Co.
1883: Scattered twps, Blackford Co.
1889: Scattered twps, Blackford Co.
1901: Jackson twp, Washington Co.
1913: Henry Co.
1919: Jackson twp, Ripley Co. Center twp, Starke Co.
1931: Henry Co.
Then she said to check "Inventory of the County Archives of Indiana," to see
what exists for your county. You might try there.
