Hi Bob. Thanks very much for your interest, but I'm not certain about which
RICE relatives are buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, it's just a guess since
there are WILSONs there, and the WILSONs married RICEs in my Gramma's line.
I know that these are the WILSONs who are buried there; Mary WILSON/JONES
wrote a letter to my gramma's brother, Walter Thomas WILSON, in Dec.1979
about the WILSONs, her father and her siblings, so I do have a lot of 'first
hand' info, altho Aunt Mary had a few dates confussed, she did know all the
children's names and about whether they lived or died.
My Great Great grandfather-Samuel Hugh WILSON- b.27 July 1847 KY (but I
think he was born in OH)-dob per IN dth cert; d.1 Apr.1921 Indianapolis IN.
Interment for Holy Cross Cem. on file-Lot 938, Block 7, Section F,
Samuel's parents are said to be Samuel and Matilda WILSON, but I have yet to
find any proof of that. Samuel's DC says his father was PP Wilson and mother
was unknown. There is an 1850 KY census that I think everyone thought was
the right family, but in my searches for Samuel's (1847-1921) parents, I
have come across a completely different line. In Samuel's obit it says his
brother Peter was living in Houston TX in 1921, so I started searching out
Peter and I have found lots of info on Peter, even his dod, have a copy of
death cert, and where he's buried, and his parents are David and Cordelia.
Another factor (that I think is important) is that Samuel and Margaret named
a daughter Cordelia, and a son David. And as far as I can tell David
(c1808/10-bef.1880) and Cordelia A.BROWN (c1816-aft.1880) named their
children Isabel, Ann, David Jr, Peter, WAlter, Charles, Samuel aka Hughey,
Mary, Katherine/Kate, and Maggie/Margret, so a lot of the names were
repeated, which makes me think these are my Samuel's parents.
In 1840 David/as D.B.WILSON is in Montgomery Co, OH
In 1850 David and Cordelia are in Montgomery Co OH, with Isabel, Ann, David,
Peter, Walter, Charles, and Hughey.
In 1860 David and Cordelia are in McCracken Co KY, which is where the family
notes say my Samuel H WILSON was born (but I actually think he was born in
OH; he probably only remembers living in KY in his younger years).
In 1870 David and Cordelia are in McCracken Co KY, with Walter, Charles,
Mary, Kate and Maggie, and a granddaughter Mollie. In 1870 I can't find a
positive record for Samuel H WILSON, only a possible listing in
Indianapolis, but in 1871 he married Margaret in Richmond IN, near where
Margaret was living.
In 1880 Cordelia is in McCracken Co KY as a widow. In 1880 Samuel and
Margaret are living in Indianapolis IN.
So my search is in McCracken Co for a death record/notice/something about
David. I'm sure that's where he most likely died. And why I think that the
ancestors thought Samuel was born in KY, but I think it was Ohio.
My Great Great grandmother-Margaret Honora SMITH/WILSON-dau of Michael and
Sarah (McAndrew) SMITH.
b17 July 1855 IN, d.22 July 1945, Indianapolis, obit on file,
Interment on file-Lot 938, Block 7, Section F,
some of Samuel and Margaret's children, also buried at Holy Cross Cem-
Samuel WILSON b.3 Sep 1902, d.18 Jan 1971
David (Davey) WILSON, died in infancy, b c1880
Samantha WILSON, died young, b.c1879-81
Charles WILSON, b.1878, d.26 Aug 1897 (1891 per Gr.ma), buried 29 Aug
1897-Interment on file-Lot 938, block 7, Sect.F.
Emma WILSON, died in infancy, b.c1877
Cordelia (Cora/Cordy) WILSON/GARNER, b.4 Sep 1875, d.c1957
mmmm.. the name MURPHY is the maiden name of Oliver (father of Henry Clay)
RICE's wife, Hannah. Interesting.
I don't know about Isaac Wilson. If I knew his dob or where he lived maybe I
can find him in my notes; some of the WILSONs that didn't tie in are filed
at the bottom of the pile (I guess like everyone else does).
Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it.
Take care, Nancy

NANCY, I live 4 blocks from the oldest Catholic cemetery in Indy,
Holy
Cross, and I will stop and check for you. Mr. Dawson, always gives me a
copy of the burial plot too!
Tell me about your Wilson`s. Isaac Wilson built a cabin where the State
House is now and it was used for early church services. A direct
descendant,
to the Wilson`s, Miss Thelma M. Murphy, may be able to help, also.
