Hi,
Thanks for your response. I just looked on the net and found that for a death record
after 1900 you have to go to Indiana State Dept. of Health (866) 601-0891 and it costs
$13. Deaths between 1872 or is it 1882 to 1900 you can get from Mation Co. Health Dept.
for $10. Death certificates from all counties before 1900 have to be obtained from the
county where the person died. It's all on the net. I haven't dealt with
VitalChek so can't give advice. Have you tried calling them or can't you get a
live person. How frustrating!
Good Luck,
Janet

I live in Europe, and tried to get my g-grandfather's death certificate, (he
died in 1911) first I tried through the Marion Co. Health dept. route, but
because we don't have checks over here--only bank cards--my request was
returned. I then tried to order it through VitalChek, with my credit card,
which was debited for charged $17.00 (their charge for the service) but I
never received the certificate, even though I did send proof of my
relationship with my g-grandfather, copy of my passport and VitalChek's
notice that they had received my request and it was being processed...that
was last January. I have tried to find a way to complain to the company,
but seem to hit brick walls each time. Any suggestions?

I have received many death certificates from the Marion Co... Health Dept.
for deaths in Marion Co. for $6.00. I believe a certified copy is $7.00.
They
will take a personal check.

I live in Florida and it usually takes two weeks to receive it. The
earliest certificate I have received was for 1895. I usually send a copy of
my
drivers license and make note of my relationship to the deceased. That was
required at one time, but I don't know if it still is.
