Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
They don't have the 1935, But they do have 1930 and 1940. Hope this helps some.

Dear listers,
I am trying to find a 1935 Indianapolis City Directory for 1935 online, but cannot find one.
I am looking for a man named IRA FERRY who lived there, but need to see if he died in 1935
or 1936.
Does anyone know of a resource for the online directory???
Thanks!

When you asked this question, I remembered I had read somewhere about the
street numbers changing. Finally found it! On the Indianapolis Marion
County Library webpage, there is a guide entitled House History Aid to help
people find the history of a house and neighborhood.
www.imcpl.org/resources/guides/family/househistory/househistoryaid.html
In the guide it says street addresses in Indianapolis were changed in 1887,
1899, and 1916.
My great grandfather who was from Germany, built a house on north Tacoma
Avenue and I had noticed the house number changed from one census to the
next but I knew he had only lived in the one house on Tacoma.
Also there were changes to some street names apparently in the 1910s and
1930s. There is a chart available on Steve Morse's website which shows the
changes in Indianapolis
www.stevemorse.org/census/changes/IndianapolisChanges.htm
Hope this helps.

Yesterday my husband received (from a friend) a treasure-trove of an address
book that belonged to his grandfather.
My question is this--
When grandpa passed 10 years ago he lived at 601 Knox St, which is just
south of Troy Ave, east of US 31 (the house is no longer there); he had
lived there since the late '30s. He had written his own address as 601
Grassmere St. Is there anyway to find out if Grassmere had been renamed to
Knox St. somewhere along the way?

I just posted on the Marion County, Indiana message board information on
Anton Schmidt. The information is from old city directories and tells the year
of the directory. A distant cousin gave me copies of the pages that show Anton
so I know that at the time she was researching several years ago those
directories were at either the Indiana State Library or the Marion County Library
(downtown branch).

I am sorry I was delayed in getting back to you. Should have never asked
this question on Father's Day !
Yes ! Our e mails crossed in cyber space. Everything you say is accurate !
The sponsors are for Anna--James Breen (I am assuming either Bridget's dad
or brother, as I do not have a family linage for her either) and Eleanor
(Nora) Smith. I do not know who she is. I have scoured the census, but
Smith is so common a surname, I have no way to know who is the "real" one.
I cannot read the sponsors of John Smith. I will send it to you embedded in
a letter so you can see,( to your home e mail.) A lot of the initial words
are in Latin. I can clearly make out Edward Smith and Bridget Breen as
parents. This priest liked to even "latintize" the first names.
Thank You,
Cece

I copied and pasted the info I got from Ancestry on the letter I sent to the
library, regarding the city directories that Ancestry posts. I assumed if
there were others, she would have informed me. You asked my basic question.
Do city directories exist for those years (1883-85)?

Check out Shelby County as I know there was an ?Edward Smith there that could be his father.

As some of you know I have been trying to find out any information about my
GG Grandfather, Edward Smith.
I have been in contact with the Indiana library, and they have been helpful
in doing searches but, as the saying goes, no cigar.
My basic situation:
Edward Smith lived in Marion County, Indiana and the only documentation I
have to prove that statement is his children's baptism certificates, (1883 &
1885) and his wife's Bridget obit. It acknowledges his life and says "he
passed 46 years ago", which figures out to 1885. What other resources do I
have available to me to find out more about him? Where he worked,
when/where was he married/buried, where did he live, who were his parents,
when/where was he born?
He was Catholic and there is an Edward Smith's name in St. John's Catholic
Church burial book June 1, 1885. (St. John's is the same church that has the
2 baptism certif.'s, so I am assuming that was their home parish.)
The library says there is no obit for an Edward Smith, or article of
accident around that period of time. There is no one buried in the Catholic
cemeteries by that name, according to Holy Cross. Would there have been a
pauper cemetery? If he died in another city, would the church have entered
his name in their book since he was a member of the parish? Or perhaps if
the body was never recovered?
I have the following to also prove his existence. I found this on
Ancestry.com. Isn't there any address books available for the years
1883-85?
Name: Bridget Smith (widow Edward)
City: Indianapolis
State: IN
Year: 1890
Location 2: 336 N Illinois
Thank you in advance for any and all ideas.
