Subject: [MARION COUNTY, IN] National Solders Military Hospital
My Uncle George Francis Coatney was admitted to the solders home in Marion,
Indiana around 1918. He was a disabled Navy Seaman. I also am interested in
any information about this National Solders Military Hospital that was
located in Marion, Indiana.

According to information found within the Civil War Pension File of JULIUS UPDEGRAFF, his widow, MATILDA, was dropped from the widow's pension rolls as of 23 Jan 1918 due to death. A copy of this death notification along with last pension check was being sent back to the US Finance Office from the Disbursing Office of a Soldier's Home in Indiana.
From other information recieved, this home was possibly located in Marion County Indiana. Can someone verify:
1. that there was a National Veterans Home located in Marion County? If so, does it still exist? Any updated address would be most appreciated.
2. that widows were entitled to live there?
Julius Updegraff resided at the Danville Illinois home until his death in 1913; Information rec'd states that widows DID NOT reside at the Danville ILL home. While Julius was in residence there, Matilda gave her address as 1951 Ralston Avenue in Indianapolis.
Any assistance or further information would be most appreciated.
Thank you
