Thank you Mariah. I looked on EBay and saw bunches of the phone directories.
I'll check back every week or so for Indiana phone books. I really
appreciate the tip.
Joyce
Hi, Joyce,
I bought all three of my telephone directories from separate eBay auctions.
There are usually at least a few directories up for auction each week, so
maybe you can keep an eye out for any that are from the areas that you're
interested in?
There's also a site online with a list of Indiana directories that they
will search for you for a small fee. The fee for one search is $5.00 and the fee
for two or more searches requested at the same time is $3.00 each. I've
never used this service myself, but apparently they provide you with photocopies
of the page(s) which list any surname requested. Here's the link:
_http://members.aol.com/CGSystems/DXSearch.htm_
(http://members.aol.com/CGSystems/DXSearch.htm)
I hope that this is at least of some help to you. If you (or anyone else)
would like me to do a lookup in one of my own telephone directories, please
let me know.
Mariah
Mariah,
Where did you get the telephine directory and do you think it's possible to
get them for other years and areas? I'd love to have some for when my father
was a child so I can see where the aunts and uncles lived that he talks
about. That would be about 1925-1940 for Indianapolis, Clinton and Terre Haute.
Thank you,
Joyce Shannon Z

This could be them !! He could have been the Captain of a river boat.
After Edward died, and she married Mr. Kelly, I noticed Bridget had 2
children in IL, (based on an Indy census someone sent me.) I felt IL was
in her roots, since she went back there for a while.
Thank you so much. Do you have access to files to see if they were married
anytime between the 1880 census and June of 1883?

If someone is privy to the 1880 Indiana census, could you look up, please, :
Edward Smith and Bridget was his wife. Their daughter was born in June of
1883 in Indianapolis, so I assume they lived there when the census was
taken. She would have been 19 or 20. I don't know what his age was. He
went by the name of Captain Edward Smith, but I don't know what service or
occupation the "Captain" denoted.
Thanks so much,

I was hoping that someone has some city or telephone directories, that
can do some looking up for me.
I have a Frank X. Miller who marred Gertrude Kirbs. In Cass County, IN
later they moved to Marion County, Indianapolis, Center twp. Frank X.
Miller had died 10 Feb 1930. So he would not be listed in the 1930
census. Where his wife Gertrude could be. And the had two children that
I know of Frank A. and Harold E. Miller. This would tell be if the boys
had married or not, if they were still with their mother.
When their father died they was living at residence 3005 E 10th st.
This would be in Indianapolis, Center twp.
If someone had excess to the 1930 census, to check for Gertrude Miller
and possibly her sons, which might still be with here.
Also, I would like to have the the City and/or telephone directories
check for Gertrude Miller and her two Sons Frank A. and Harold E.
Miller. Starting with the 1930's and maybe jumping up to the 50's or
60's to see if they were still living in Indianapolis.
Even If there is nothing listed this is making progress, maybe they
moved or had pass away.
Charlotte E Flock
Thank you.
Carol,
Death certificates in that time period will list the name of the funeral home/funeral director which will lead you to the cemetery. I would start checking on-line death indexes and possibly the social security index, military pension record index for last known state or address. When you determine where, then write for a copy of their death certificates. Just remember that the genealogical information on the certificate is only as reliable as the person who gave the info. My dad's sister was off a year on my grandfather's birth, so both his cert and grave marker are incorrect! Even my very sharp ol' dad didn't catch it!!
