Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Check the Marion County IN website. Look for Marriage Licenses to get their address and cost. When I was there it was $1.00 2 yrs. ago, but they were about to have huge price increase to $10. if memory serves. Also, it depends on the year as to which office has the records.

Sandi:
Have you checked the City Directories? Sometimes there were pictures
of the various hotels and businesses in them. Sorry, I don't have access to
any of them, but you can order them on microfilm from the various FHC from the
LDS Church in Salt Lake City. I'm not sure when the directories started.
Jan in FL.
Sandi,
I have found listings on eBay quite helpful - if you type in Indiana
genealogy, a lot of books and directories come up, as well as old post
cards, photos, books on CD, etc. I have had quite a bit of luck there.
Good luck,

My Great Great Grandparents owned a Hotel in Indianapolis called The
California House. In the 1860 and 1870 census it was located at 360-366

grandparents were: Adam Kistner born 1826 Germany and married Catherine

in 1873 and Catherine married two times, Emil Domon and Charles Dantzer,

Domon and Dantzer were listed proprietors of The California House. In the
1887-90 Indianapolis directory it lists Dantzer as the proprietor of the
California House. That is a 30 year spand for The California House. I
cannot find
anymore information about this establishment. I cannot find any records

Both Jacob and Zadoc Coverdale are buried in Marion Co., Indiana. I haven't been able to find either one of them. Jacob Coverdale is listed in the 1830 census. I believe he died sometime before 1840 census. Zadoc died sometime just before 1850 census. Could someone help me find if there is probate information on Jacob Coverdale? I also need it on Zadoc. I live on the west coast and unable to search it out myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Pat (Coverdale) Higley

For listers from out of state, my apologies. Just hit delete.
Those of us who live and research in Indiana have an opportunity to
increase our access to public records and to expand on a patron-friendly
atmosphere that exists at the Indiana State Archives.
For several years Dr Alan January, State Archivist, has been Co-Director on
the Indiana Commission of Public Records (ICPR) with Connie Hume and Judge
John Newman. The ICPR is the agency which creates and/or distributes state
forms and documents. The State Archives has been part of this agency for a
number of years.
Governor-Elect Mitch Daniels will select his candidate for ICPR
Director. As a long-time volunteer at the State Archives, I feel
comfortable suggesting to you that you consider an email to Governor-Elect
Mitch Daniel's website on behalf of Alan January's candidacy.
That website is: http://www.mygovmitch.com/nominate.asp
(If the link does not work, just google "mygovmitch")
Besides including your personal information, you will need to include the
following:
Dr Alan January

317-253-4071
ajanx2(a)excite.com
Under Dr. January's leadership the volunteer program has grown from a
handful to over 40 volunteers working to make Indiana records available to
Hoosier researchers. Several databases have been made available on-line,
and I believe several more would be on-line quickly under Dr January's
leadership. Researchers could request copies of documents the existence of
which is currently unknown to them. The State Archives has vast
collections to pique the interest of many. I sincerely believe much
progress would be made if Dr January were Director of the ICPR.
In a day when access to many vital records is being legislated away, let's
take a positive step toward disclosure of public records to which we can
have access.

If you are still offering to email the Marion County Plat Map 1866, I would
love one.
Royal Mayhew (1805-1865) lived in Centre North in the 1860 census. According
to his obituary, the family residence was on Michigan Road North (1865).
"Prominent Citizens of 1876" - at the time of his death, Mr Mayhew owned some
valuable city property on the Southeast side of the Circle on Circle Street.
Royal Mayhew was a Treasurer of the State of Indiana (Democrat) and was
listed as a surveyor in the 1859 "G W Hawes, Indianapolis, Indiana Business
Directory for 1859-1860. He and his family were among the earliest settlers of
Shelbyville, Indiana where he lived until he moved to Indianapolis for the treasurer
position (1844).
