A Feast of Ancestors! Enjoy Free Access to the Register Online Over
Thanksgiving
Weekend!
NEHGS is pleased to offer free access to its New England Historical and
Genealogical
Register database on NewEnglandAncestors.org over the Thanksgiving holiday
weekend!
Normally only available to NEHGS members, the Register database will be
accessible
to everyone from Thursday, November 25 through Sunday, November 28, 2004. We
encourage all NEHGS members to spread the word about this offering, and we
hope that
those of you who are not members find a veritable feast of ancestors in the
Register
database!
Published quarterly since 1847, The New England Historical and Genealogical
Register
is the flagship journal of American genealogy and the oldest journal in the
field.
The online database includes issues from 1847 to 1994.
The Register has featured articles on a wide variety of topics since its
inception,
including vital records, church records, tax records, land and probate
records,
cemetery transcriptions, obituaries, and historical essays. Authoritative
compiled
genealogies have been the centerpiece of the Register for more than 150 years.
Thousands of New England families have been treated in the pages of the
journal and
many more are referenced in incidental ways throughout. The articles in the
Register
range from short pieces correcting errors in print or solving unusual
problems to
larger treatments that reveal family origins or present multiple generations
of a
family.
Look for details on how to obtain free access to the Register in a special
eNews
bulletin to be sent out Wednesday, November 24. A link will also be available
on
that date on the home page of our website, www.NewEnglandAncestors.org.
I am new to the list and I would like to know what newspaper or source I might use to find the obit of one
Earl J. FRANKLIN who died in Indianapolis, IN on 15 Feb 1992 .
Are there people who do lookups or genealogy societies which might have a file of deaths?

RACHEL MARTIN was born circa 1806 at PA. He was the daughter of John and Susanna (Ourie/Urey) Martin.
John was orn about 1774 in "Little" York Co., PA and died about 1847, probably in Licking Co., OH. Susanna was born about 1777, probably in PA and died about 1818 in PA or OH. John Martin remarried to Margaret Messencope on 11 Feb 1819 in Belmont Co., OH.
Rachel married Reason Burdett Sr, son of William Burdett and Rosa Fitzgerald, on 17 Mar 1833 at Harrison Co., OH. Reason had previously been married to Sophia Spencer.
Rachel and Reason Burdett Sr. appeared on the census of 1840 in Flushing Twp., Belmont Co., OH.
Rachel is listed in final settlement of her father, John Martin's, estate, 3 July 1858 and other proceedings beginning July,
1853. These are recorded in the Partition records, Vol. D, pages 354-361; Vol F; and other volumes of the Licking Co. OH Clerk of Court, Courthouse, Newark, OH.
She was recorded in the census on 16 Aug 1860 at Kirkwood Twp., Belmont Co., OH. Her husbnd had died by then.

Records Preservation and Access
Access to birth certificates and other public records has been in the news of
late. Recent anti-terrorism legislation, House Resolution 10 (H.R.10),
introduced Rep. J. Dennis Hastert, contained language that could limit access to
birth certificates to genealogists and family historians. The word went out and
letters were written to have that language changed to allow researchers access
to non-certified copies of documents and to documents dating back 100 years or
more.
In Maryland new rules governing public access to court records became
effective October 1, easing earlier restrictions. The new legislation presumes case
records open to the public, unless expressly closed by an existing statute or
rule, or by a court order.
And in North Dakota, a two-edged sword found Stark County Recorder in
violation of the law after refusing to permit access to marriage records. The
Recorder closed the records in April 2003 after a state law went into effect,
providing confidentiality of social security numbers in public records. Marriage
records in Stark County list the social security numbers of the bride and groom.
The new ruling requires that confidential information in records be blacked out
and the remainder of the record provided.
Ensuring proper access to historical records of genealogical value is the
mission of the Records Preservation and Access Committee, a combined effort of
the Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS) and the National Genealogical
Society (NGS). In introducing its mission, the organization states, "This
cooperative venture is intended to advise the genealogical and historical
communities, as well as other interested parties, on ensuring proper access to vital
records, on means to effect legislation, and on supporting strong records
preservation policies and practices." For more information issues surrounding Records
Preservation and Access, visit http://www.fgs.org/rpa/.

I was wanting information on some grave sites for the Middleton family. I know James Patrick Middleton Sr. is buried in Floral Park (or Roselawn I cannot remember which) along with my grandmother Dorothy Geilker Middleton.
I do know most of the Middleton side settled in Marion County after moving from Greene County. I would like information on
Alfred Newel Middleton died abt. 1923 or a little before
Martha Hoagland Middleton Wife died abt. 1920 or a little after
William Roy Middleton died about 1921
Stella (Estella) (Maggie) Morrisey Middleton wife died about 1917
IF anyone knows the graveyard listings of Marion County I sure would be grateful if you find anything on these Middleton's and can please tell me.
Thank you

What they meant is that they need a microfilm # and a Page # the Library doesn't have any death certificates for IN, they just have the books and a CD to tell the information. The death Certificates need to be of ones you are related to, and I think they need some identifaction. Here is another link to get them, and it will tell what you need.
http://vitalrec.com/guidelines.html
They do have the Marraige records, but only to a certain year, unless you go look them up in the court house they said they are public record.

here's what I know for certain about the George Pearson I'm seeking. He
had to have been born between 1881, when his parents, John Edwin Pearson
and Catherine Elizabeth Curtis were married in IL, and the 1900 census.
He doesn't appear in the family on the 1900, 1910, 1920 or 1930 census.
He could have been born in IL prior to the family's move to KS which
occurred in 1884. John Edwin Pearson was the son of John Blunston
Pearson, born in Mercer/Butler County, PA.
George had brothers named Russell L and Frank Edwin who remained in KS,
Lyon County, Emporia. The brothers and their father worked for the Santa
Fe railroad. In John Edwin Pearson's obituary dated Sept 1933, George is
said to be living in Indianapolis. IN. In 1956 , when his brother
Russell died he is still listed as being from Indianapolis, IN. Frank E
Pearson, the youngest son, died in 1980 and his obituary states that
George B Pearson was dead.
So the time frame that I'm looking for an obituary falls between 1956
and 1980. A long period of time.
I checked all the census records but can't clearly ID him. I checked the
SSDI, but there are several that might be him.

Hi Merry:
We need a way of identifying him. You mention that you have his Father's
obituary. What was his name? There is a George Pearson in the 1900 Census
for Franklin County, Brookville Twp. Franklin is just South of Marion

Subject: [MARION COUNTY, IN] George Pearson
Hi,
I'm new to the list and I'm looking for a George B (Blunston) Pearson,
who was born in IL or KS. In his father's obituary (1933) he was listed
as living in Indianapolis, IN. He was still living in `1956 as an
obituary for a relative stated that he was in Indianapolis. My problem
is that I don't have a handle on his age. He never appears on the census
in his father's family.
He had to have been born between 1881, when his parents married and 1900
. My logic for this is that he doesn't appear on the 1900-1930 census
with his folks.
His family were railroad workers for the Santa Fe railroad and I did
find a George pearson in the SSDI that had his # issued by the railroad.
Born 23 Dec 1888 died May 1967, in Petersburg Pike IN.
Can anyone check an obituary for him for that month or suggest how I can
obtain one? I'm in TN and will do lookups in exchange.
Thanks
Merry Anne Pierson
