Does anyone lnow hte location of the Newby family cemetery. I believe it is in Washington Twp. Broad Ripple area. If anyone has the address I would greatly appreciate it.

Hello Nan,
Thank you for checking for my Ayers family in the cemetery book. Would you
mind sending me the address of the Franklin Township Historical Society?
Perhaps they may have some information on my Ayers. At least is't worth a
try.
Best wishes,
Joy
Hi Joy:
The Franklin Township Historical Society has published
cemetery readings for that township. Acton Cemetery
is the largest cemetery in Franklin Township and is
still in use. The earliest burial in 1845 was a
member of the Leeper Family. It actually started out
as a family cemetery. Apparently, the cemetery
records prior to 1908 were lost.
They have done a reading of the cemetery but there are
no Ayers listed. Perhaps their tombstones wore away
with age or were broken or lost since the 1860's.

Since there are a couple of people asking about cemeteries in Indiana, I
would recommend that one of the first places to look for cemetery data is
the Indiana State Library web site, http://www.statelib.lib.in.us/ . Follow
the links to the online genealogy data and there is an available search for
most (if not all) cemeteries in Indiana.
While you are there, check out the online database of Indiana marriages
prior to 1851. One of the best resources around.
THANKS

Sorry, for the previous post. Can anyone direct me to a cemetery in the
above town that would have been in existence in 1860s? Three members of my
Ayers family living in Acton, died in 1862 and I have not been able to find
an obit or burial place for them.
Thank you for any direction.
Joy
Hi,
Does anyone know how far back the Marion County library will look for the
obituary copies described in recent digests? Would they include the 1880-1930
period by any chance? Thanks, Dick in Las Vegas
Thank you for the help

Hi Lynn, tried to get an obit for you but could not. Did find out the following for you,
The Indianapolis Star publishes free basic obituaries for the county and other surrounding counties. You can get a copy of and obituary by contacting the Star's library at 1-317-444-6496, the inquires will be answered during the library hours of 9 am to 4 pm Monday throught Friday. The services fee is $5.00 plus tax (residents only) and you have to have a specific date for the obituary. I tried to access the archives for you but it only went back to the beginning of the year. The only other thing I can suggest is to contact the funeral home where the services where conducted at, they may have a copy in their files that they can send you for a small fee. Sorry, I could not do more. Hope this helps. Linda Ellis Mount Vernon, Washington
