Can someone please tell me where marriage records are found in Marion County
Indiana? I am interested in marriage license applications from the
1920's-1950. Also, can anyone get these records? And is there a charge for a non
certified copy?
Thank you,
Kimber
On my web page at nancywhite.org, you will find the
following:
Seth Curtis Jane Cox 22 Aug 1830
Marriage Records, Vol 01, Page 115
You might want to check the section on land records.

The only thing I can tell you is maybe check with the Washington
Library...Washingting Co Clerk's office and if they have one the Washington Co Historical
Society. I have found a lot of family info by writing those places. May be a
small fee but worth it. In Lee CO VA a book was held by the courthouse and
residents reported the births and deaths. I found my grandma in 1887 in the book.
Maybe other cities did the same. You can go to
www.google.com and type in Washinton Indiana Historical Society or what ever.
It's a great search engine. Good luck.

Dear Millie,
Thanks that data will help. The one I am looking for is Seth
Curtis/Emeline (Fullen)
Do you have any advise on washington township records where I might find
those births from so early in the century.
Seth was the son of Alanthus Curtis, who came to Fayete County from NY
about 1818. We find Alanthus doing some land purchase/sales in Fayette
1829/1830. Alanthus great friend was Rev Lyman Carpenter Justice of
Peace, farmer and seed oil manufacturer in Fayette County. Apparently,
the Fayette folks decided to seek opportunities in Marion County. In
1831 Lyman helped establish the village of Cumberland, Marion County
along with Samuel Fullen (who married the daughter of George Pogue, the
Indianapolis pioneer) and the widow Pogue. Then in 1834 we find
Alanthus buying land near Cumberland - and two years later Alanthus' son
Seth married Samuel Fullen's dau Emeline.
By 1840 the whole Curtis family decided to move to Porter County, IN.
We find the father Alanthus there in the 1840 census. Seth it seems was
still in Marion but about to move, as by 10 Dec 1840 he is buying land
in Porter County. I don't yet know the reason for the move but I
suspect it may have been as a result of the great financial crash in
Indianapolis in 1837/1838.
I would like to explore Washington Twp records to find the exact cite on
William and Alanthus Jr and perhaps Mary Ann - the children of Seth and
Emeline. I might get lucky and find some mention of the family
situation of the time.
My other search will be for the church where Seth/Emeline might have
married.
Any advise.
Thanks for your help - its greatly appreciated.

Hi Listers
Am trying to find some written sources for children born to Seth/Emeline
Curtis married Marion County 1836. If anyone has come accross any
document which lists birth or baptism of:
Children:
William McKinley Curtis born May 1837
Alanthus Marvin Curtis born 1839
This family was reported to have lived in Washington Township, Marion
County IN from 1836 to 1840 when they removed to Porter County IN.
However, there is also some record of land purchase by Seth's father
Alanthus Curtis in Warren County, IN in 1834 - which may be unrelated to
their living place.
Of interest, Emeline (Fullen) Curtis was the grandau of William Pogue,
one of the first settlers (1820) in Indianapolis.
