The 1870 Census index at ancestry.com lists a Nicholas Marion in the 8 W.
Indianapolis ED 1 on page 435, but the 8th Ward starts abt. pg. 179. Pg
435 is in the 7th Ward, but no Nicholas Marion is listed.
Could someone that has a different 1870 Census index please tell me where
Nicholas Marion is listed?
Thank you,
Sandi
Could someone please send me the mailing address of St. Joseph, Holy Cross
and Calvary Catholic Cemeteries in Indianapolis? Also, are any of them
online?
Thank you,
Sandi
Hello listers;
I am looking for Elisha H. SANDERS who married Sarah WOOD in Henry Co., IN.
in 1849. I know that by 1860 they were living in Marion Co. Elisha and
Sarah had several children, one Emma Jane SANDERS b. 1853, and Elisha H.
SANDERS jr. b. abt. 1857. I believe all the children were born in Marion Co.
Is anyone else researching this family? Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you. Janet
Hi Robert:
If you go to the following URL, there is a picture of the church. It is now
used by the Franklin Township Historical Society and they have a museum
there now:
http://www.indygov.org/dmdplan/documents/township_na/franklin.pdf
The address is:
Franklin Township Historical Society
P. O. Box 39015
Indianapolis, IN
The Big Run Cemetery is right next to the church. I remember driving thru
their several years ago. I have several pictures that we took of the
church, cemetery, and inside the church. Marjorie Main use to live in Acton
and they have a dress that she wore in one of her movies hanging in the
museum. If you'd like to have any of the pictures, please let me know and I
can send them to you in JPG format.

Hi Jeanne:
You are very welcome. I also am the county coordinator for the Marion Co
INGenExchange. That web page has been down due to technical difficulties
but it should be back up in a few weeks. That information is in searchable
databases.
Thanks for forwarding my E-Mail. I like to get the information to as many
researchers as possible. The Surber surname is very prevalent in Indiana.
There are 68 marriages in Marion County alone, with given names from L-Z;
292 in all counties.
I like to get the histories that were written back during the time when it
was happening rather than getting history books written 100 years later. If
I can do anything to help, please let me know.
Nan

Thanks so much, Nancy for announcing your website
(http://www.geocities.com/nlwhite603). I'm coordinator for the Surber
family name Rootsweb list and I've taken the liberty of forwarding your
message to that list. A great many Surber descendants have Indiana roots and
my own branch is from both Shelby & Marion from about 1820 to 1850. I've
found the early years of the 1800's hard to research and really appreciate
your website.

Hi i am looking for info on my GGGrandfather. His name is Joseph Barker. He was born in Indianapolis abt 1884. Fathers name Walter Barker born Yorkshire England Mothers name not known. Was naturalized citizen but returned to England with his family. Was wondering if anyone could help locate my family. Walter Barker i found on ancestry as a cabinet maker in indianapolis 1889-90 but he was over there from abt 1880-1900. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction as i like to collect photos maps of where they lived and their occupations etc to display with the names.
Regards
Jennifer (UK)
P.S There was talk of a possible half sister also named Violet, could she have been born in Indiana also?
Hi Jennifer:
There is a Walter and Clara Barker from England with son James in the 1880
LDS Census in Indiana:

There were eight people living at this residence so it was probably a
boarding house. I did not find them in the 1900 Census so perhaps that is
when they were in England.
Here is the birth of a daughter in 1887 which gives the Mother's maiden
name:

Hello Philadelphia
URGENT REQUEST!:
Now that we are over the holidays, This years is our 350th Anniversary of
the landing of the Swartwout family in North America. The name has many
variations such as Swarthout, Swartout, Swartwood, Swathwood, Swarthwood
etc. We need help in gather lines, pictures, articles, wills, what ever you
have stashed in your attic. We would really appreciated it if you shared
with us what you had, there a literally thousands of us here looking for
our roots, looking for connections. For our 350th Anniversary we need to
updated our list of folks out there that are descendants somewhere along the
line of any of those variations. We also have a family newsletter that cost
only $5.00 per year, a real bargain. Just send it your mailing address.
Every day I get e-mail asking me for help. Up here in Canada, there were two
brothers that had huge families, all the remains of their descendants are
the female sides. All the male went back to the States. I'm am the
maintainer of "The Updated Swartwout Chronicles" People submit their
lines-ged-coms etc. and I just drop them into the data base. It is
everyone's database. Each person is responsible for their own submissions.
It is not copyrighted.

Saw this book on ebay and thought perhaps someone's parents or family
members could be in it.

1960:Bid at only $6.99

Hope it find a home with a family member instead of a collector that ends
up keeping all information to itself.
When you buy, scan it and place it on a webpage for others!
Many of the genealogy county sites are doing this now.
Tip:While searching ebay click on ebay stores, those items are a seperate
search engine.
Thanks,
Jas.

Hi- I have received copies of obituaries for my relatives who died in Indianapolis, IN this last summer. Try writing to:
Indianapolis-Marion Co. Public Library
Newspaper and Periodical Division
P.O. Box 211
Indianapolis, IN 46206
There is a $1.00 copying fee/per copy. I enclosed an SASE, and the information needed: Name, date of birth if known, date of death, spouses name, last known address, and the newspaper the obit appeared in. Now, I'm not sure they still do them as there was an article about one of the libraries not doing them anymore, but it's worth a try, especially if you know all the information to provide them with.
