You are welcome! That is what this is all about helping each other, yes? I only have the 1870 Indian index so I checked the Hamilton co, Delaware Twp. Peterson/Petersen and here is what I came up with. He very well may have had some more with him that was not listed in the index. I live in a very small town in Michigan on the Indiana/Michigan border - I will try to get into Indiana next week and check that census if you want me to.
Molly surely is a name used for Mary. I have seen this many times in my own family. Also my grgr grandmother's name was Judith but at different times in her life she would use Juda/Judy/Judah/Judith. It must have been a stage they went through. After her conversion to Christ she used Juda or Judah most of the time. In her young years it was Judith and early adulthood up to her conversion it was Judy. Maybe this was the case with your Molly/Susan/Samaria.
Also a theory: Mary C. Gray could be Molly and the C. could stand for Samaria and the record taker thought Samaria started with a C rather that an S???? But then again it was Samaria C. on her marriage to William Hammons - sigh - mysteries!
Let me know if I can look up anything else and if you want me to go to the lib and check on that 1870 census. I know how hard it is to do research from afar and if we did not help each other much would be left undone for a while. I might just take you up on that Canada offer as my dad was born in Wallaceburg!
Take care and have fun! :-))

Hi,
I'm new to the list. Is anyone else researching the HELFER family? My
gg-grandmother was Mary Luella (HELFER) DUCKWALl born 1853 in Lawrenceburg,
IN and lived most of her life in Indianapolis. She lived at 714 N. New
Jersey Street from the late 1800s until about 1926 when she moved to
Oregon. Her parents were Andrew & Sarah HELFER. Mary Luella's sister
(Carrie if I recall correctly) married a SYLVESTER.
Andrea in Oregon
Thanks to all that sent some advise to me. Much of it was helpful. I think that one was very helpful. Some had asked for further information, which I am adding below:
FURTHER INFORMATION AND TIME FRAME
1) Elijah Hopper (Senior) was born in 1829 (I think). He died and is buried in the Crown Hill Cemetery (CHC). The date of his death is given there as 11/28/1908. He was married to Barbara Dawson. Her DOD at (CHC) is 06/04/1907. Elijah and Barbara had at least two sons. They were:
2) Elijah King Hopper and Oliver S. Hopper.
Oliver S. Hopper is buried at the (CHC) and DOD is 04/18/1933.
Elijah King Hopper, born in 1861. His DOD at (CHC) is 05/09/1924. He was married to Nellie Grace Capito, born 1869. Her DOD at (CHC) is 09/06/1911.
[Elijah King & Nellie Grace Hopper are my grandparents]
(3) I noticed from the information at the Crown Hill Cemetery, that buried in the same Lot as Elijah Hopper (Senior), was:
Barbara (Dawson) Hopper
Oliver S. Hopper
Martha Hopper (09/11/1907)
Daisy M. Hopper (04/12/1910)
>From this, I presume that either Martha or Daisy was the wife of Oliver S. Hopper; and it makes me wonder how the other is related.
(4) I do know, from the Indianapolis Directory, that both Elijah King and his brother, Oliver S., were living in Indianapolis by the year 1887. I would really like to know where Elijah Hopper (Senior) comes from, and who are his parents.
If anyone can give any help, I would be most thankful.

Jan,
In case you haven't gotten an answer about this yet, here goes:
Shirley Brothers Mortuaries & Crematory
Family Owned & Operated Since 1898
Washington Memorial Chapel
9606 E. Washington St.
(317) 897-9606
There are other locations listed, but this seems to be the main one and
I'm sure they could answer any questions for you.
I couldn't find the others listed either, but maybe Shirley Brothers can
tell you about where to locate their records. Please let me know how it
turns out and especially if you get info on who to contact for old
records of this sort.
