Does anyone on this list go to the Indianapolis library? Could you get an
obituary for me if you do? Mary Elizabeth Engle, died April 28, 1914 in
Indianapolis, lived at 640 Porter Street, is buried in Mt. Jackson cemetery.

Hi Pat,
I saw your above posting. I got an idea. Write to the Indianapolis City
Archives and Records office for marriage records on Ruby and Jack. They were
very helpful in finding my relatives. I also checked with the Indianapolis
library to see if they could find a marriage announcement and they found one
as well.
The e-mail address for the Library is <webmaster(a)imcpl.lib.in.us>. They will
look up your relatives names in their marriage catalog and if they find them,
they will charge you a dollar for copies and mailing. It is so worth it. It
also gives you the sponsors names. They found mine listed in the
"Locomotive" newspaper.

This is the address that I used a few years ago. I gave them an approximate
year of ~1850 and they did the rest in finding my relatives.
Maybe this marriage information will give you Jack's true name. Jack may be
short for something else or it may be his middle name.
Give it a try.
Good luck,

Rose:
Check with Floral Park Cemetery. They have a section called Greenlawn and
there is an older section within that section that I understood were graves
from the original Greenlawn Cemetery, It is chained off from the other graves
to maintain it. My parents are buried next to it. It is a lovely section.
Don't dispair, you'll find it.

I am a little non plussed...Cyrus Buchanan died Jul 1873, I have his
mortality record. It states he was buried at City Cemetery which was
Greenlawn, was it not? And that all burials were removed to Crown Hill
by a certain date? Well, Crown Hill is telling me that Cyrus is not
there and that they have no record of him.
What should I do about this can of worms, does anyone have any advise
for me?

I want to echo what Nancy said. I have found the information from Crown
Hill ($5.00) per name, very valuable. Most times they send the map of the
graves along with the burial permit. I have been able to connect siblings,
in-laws, parents etc. The funeral home is mentioned many times that you can
contact for additional information. I was able to find three generations of
one family in the same family plot. In addition sometimes there are
birthdates and birth locations, if not that, then the age of the person at
death and you can then estimate his birth year. There is also the address of
the library to write to for the obituary. I've been able to then also obtain
death certificates from the county because I then had the date of death. Not
all the records are this complete, but many are.

Thanks,
Had viewed the Crown Hill listings as there are several ancestors buried
there including my parents. Was not aware of the other two, however, good
idea to check. I was hesitant to write since it costs (not much, I know) plus
they say they rarely have any parental information. Perhaps the connection
within section will make it worth the attempt.
Again, thanks,
Dick in Las Vegas
Richard,
There are four people buried in the same lot and section as Sarah and
Edwin-James 1926 and William F 1923, perhaps one is a father of your Edwin.
Have you written to Crown Hill for the records? They are wonderful people
and very helpful.

Use the burial locator button, type in the last name, you will find all
Ritchie's buried there. I am also searching for Ritchie's so this caught my
eye. Good luck with your search.

I am looking for information on my WILSON family-which is a large family, and a lot of Wilson's.
My Grandfather: Walter Thomas Wilson b. Oct 10, 1873, town unk.
Gr.Grandfather: Samuel Hugh Wilson b. Jul 27, 1847 KY, possibly McCracken Co, have been unsuccessful in obtaining any birth info on him; d. Apr 1, 1921 in Indianapolis, Marion Co, IN and is buried at Holy Cross Cem. in Indianapolis. Would very much like to locate any living relatives, I have a copy of his obit,
GGr.Grandfather: was told it is Samuel Wilson, but on Gr.gf Sam'l Hugh Wilson's death cert it says: P.P. Wilson; I have no notes regarding this name; but do know that Samuel had a brother name Peter Wilson who was living in Houston, TX at the time of his death in 1921.
I was told these Wilson's came from Ireland in the early 1700's, settled in KY before moving to IN.
Gf Walter T. Wilson married Mary E. Rice in IN
GGrGf Samuel H. Wilson married Margaret H. Smith in 1870; Margaret was only 15 yrs; they had 17 children; Walter was the second born;
GGGrGf Samuel or P.P. was married to Ellen or Matilda, last name unk.
If anyone recognizes this family would like to hear from you.
Thanks, Nancy Riley, Ont, Canada
Hi, I am new to list. I am looking for Engle family that lived in Center
Township. Mary Davis Engle died there in 1914. She was buried in Mount
Jackson Cemetery. The father was Talton? Engle and died sometime after 1914.
They had 2 sons that I know of: Hiram and Charles. Hiram was in Indy on 1920
census married to Pearl and one son, Omen, age 11. Does anyone know this
Engle family? Is Talton or the others buried in Mount Jackson?

Hi, I have come to a dead end in my research on my great grandmother's
beginnings. Family information says that she was born in Bedford,
Indiana (Lawrence Co.) on February 4, 1865. I do not have a birth
certificate to verify that because she was adopted at a young age. Her
orginal surname was said to be HISEY, HEISY, or HEISEY (or perhaps
another variation of that name). I know that she was raised as Julia F.
MYERS (another sources says MEYERS) and lived in her 20's (around 1885)
with the MYERS/MEYERS family in New Albany, Floyd Co., Indiana.
Does anyone know if adoption records were kept around 1865 - 1870 in
either Lawrence or Floyd Counties and where would I look to find these
records?
She was married to William Roeder on May 14, 1885 in New Albany (Floyd
Co.), Indiana. The marriage record does not list her parents names. I
found a newspaper article on the marriage in the New Albany paper, but
it just announced that she was married at the home of her parents (in
New Albany). No mention of the parents first names or the names of
witnesses. Julia's maiden name was listed as MYERS or MEYERS (spelling
differs with source).
Does anyone have access to a city directory for New Albany, Indiana for
the year 1885? I would like a listing of all the MYERS and MEYERS
families with their addresses. I checked the Indiana State Library last
summer when I was there, but they did not have that year.
She died in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1910. The newspaper articles did
not give any listing of family members that she left behind.
Any suggestions on how to do further research on her would be
appreciated.
Ann
Does anyone know where I could find the current location of land owned
in the above time period?
On one family I have a copy of the deed but I am trying to find where
this land would be located now.
I know it was in Washington Twp.

I looked in 1957 Indianapolis City Diretory and is not listed, Could Jack be
a nickname for John? There is one John, but his wife's name is Betty. I
just checked the rest on Marion County and also no Jack Stamm.

Hi, My question when was Libbie born, and what year did she marry? She can
not have been born in 1842 and married on Christmas Day the same year.
