I have no information on John SWORDS at this time. I only know about his
son, John William SWORDS and am trying to find information to verify Sarah
Ann LEATHEMAN as his mother. If I later find anything to match my SWORDS
with the line you have, I will let you know! good luck!

Can anyone tell me how I can get additional information on a person buried at Crown Hill Cemetery?
I've located a name and date of burial but need to know the date of birth to determine if this is my 3rd great grandmother. If so, then I can request a copy of her death certificate.
Name: NANCY HAWKINS (DOB - ca 1818)
Date of Burial: Mar 23, 1904 Section 32, Lot 272
Someone was checking this for me but never got an answer back and I must have deleted her e-mail address.
Any assistance will be appreciated.
Thanks, Joann Bragg

Dear List:
I also received this email this a.m. which casts doubt on the message I
just sent *FYI - Recovered Military Records.* I'm sorry if I passed on
something that was not true.

This legend has been circulating for a number of years. I do not
know how to prove definitively the truth of this story, but the
December 2000 issue of what I believe to be the newsletter of the
Illinois state headquarters of the American Legion carried the
following story:
----------------------
LOST MILITARY RECORDS QUESTIONED
It was recently reported in a veterans publication that the
Veterans Administration reported discovering 10 million
duplicates of the 20th Century Military Records. These
records were thought to have been destroyed in a fire. They
were told to call the Veterans' Personnel Records, GSA, St.
Louis, MO
Phone contact was made by this office and was informed that
this WAS NOT TRUE and they knew nothing of this nature.
We will continue to monitor this situation.

"The Veterans Administration has reported discovering 10 million
duplicates of 20th Century Military Records. These records were thought
to have been destroyed in a 1973 fire which wiped out most Army records
from 1912 to 1960 and most Air Force records from 1947 to 1964. If you
need records that you were told were burned, you may contact: Veterans
Personnel Records, GSA, St. Louis, MO 63132.
