Hi Hope,
You can find a few cemetery transcriptions online at the LaPorte Co Genweb site
found at <
http://www.anaserve.com/~mcglothlin/mctartan.htm>
This site will also link you to the Michigan City Public Library which has a
list of all the cemeteries in LaPorte.
Another link will take you to the LaPorte County Museum and Historical Society.
They have a reasonably priced basic research package which is good for someone
researching from a distance. It includes a lookup in the cemetery transcription.
Good Hunting!

Does anyone on the list have names and addresses of cemeteries in Pleasant
Township, LaPorte, Indiana? My Samuel Harmison, born 1812 in Ohio, is said
to have died in Pleasant Township, March 6, 1862. My Harmison ancestors
first purchased land in Pleasant Township, LaPorte, Indiana in March, 1837.
Other members of Samuel's family included his father, Samuel Harmison, who
died in White County, Indiana, his mother, Nancy Arnell (Arnold) Harmison
and the following siblings: my ggggrandfather, Isaac Harmison, born 1814;
John Harmison, born either in 1803 or 1824; Mary Harmison, born abt. 1816,
Sarah Harmison, born 1823, Betsey Harmison, born 1825 or 1827, Catherine
Harmison, and James Harmison, born 1820. Samuel Harmison is the only
Harmison family member known to have remained in LaPorte, Indiana
throughout his life. He and his wife, Elizabeth Cornell, were farmers in
LaPorte. Samuel's brother, my ggggrandfather, Isaac Harmison, also lived
in LaPorte for a time, then moved on to Wisconsin. The Harmison surname
has always been extremely rare in the U.S. and was oftentimes misspelled as
Harminson, Hammson, Herbeson, etc., so it's difficult at best to find
information on them. I'm hoping cemetery records may provide some
additional information on them.
Are there any cemetery addresses or cemetery indexes on line for Indiana?
I also have ancestors who died in Fulton County, Indiana and in White
County, Indiana; would like to know where to start in tracking down the
sextons of the various cemeteries in these counties.
Thanks.
Hope
