In the Fort Wayne Daily Gazette from Fort Wayne Indiana 9 April 1866 is an
article about Joseph Thurber, son of Alonzo B. Thurber of LaPorte Co.
Indiana. It tells of Thurber's escape from an attempted murder of 6
soldiers who were ambushed in Tennessee in Jan 1865. The five others were
killed. In a twist of fate, a year later Thurber met up with one of the
killers in a business setting. This resulted in the arrest of the
murderer. I found an image on line, but a portion along the margin of one
paragraph is missing. If anyone on this list has access to this old
newspaper, I'd be happy to pay any copying and mailing costs associated
with obtaining a copy of the article.
