Your Hotchkiss familiy was likely at the Alida junction, 1.75 miles north of
the Haskell Station junction, judging from the names on either side in the
1880 census. John Tuley owned 76 acres directly adjacent and SE of Alida.
Martha Reynolds owned 68 acres
directly adjacent and to the NE of Alida. The Reynolds property also
abutted the Tulley property. Martha Reynolds also had a 40 acre strip
running along the west side of the Louisville, New Albany and Chicago
tracks, centered on Alida.
If the ennumerator tried to do the census sequentially, your Hotchkiss
should also be in Alida.
BTW, in the 1921 Plat Book, there is a C. W. Hotchkiss who had about 400
acres in Center TWP centered at 2.5 miles due west of Pine Lake Cemetery in
LaPorte.
