Hello Pam and all,
I think that the Laban of Macon Co., IL and the Laban of LaPorte Co., may be one in the
same.
There is a Laban who married a Mary Jane Way in LaPorte Co., 29 May 1954.
In the 1860 census he can be found in Noble twp, LaPorte approx. dob 1824 and name is
mispelled as Layburn Dunham born Indiana.
In the household are his wife Mary Jane b. Conn. 28, Lillie age 5 and a son, Frederick,
6/12
Perhaps a divorce occurred as in the 1870 census, Mary and her 2 children are living
with her parents, William Way.
Mary Jane is buried in Union Mills Cemetery without Laban. 14 Jan 1902

Subject: [INLAPORT] Laban Dunham gravesite
La Porte Researchers,
I recently came across an IGI Individual Record that included a burial
date for Laban H. Dunham. I need help determining whether there is a
gravesite for Laban in La Porte County.
Laban H. Dunham was the son of Ira Dunham of Union and La Porte counties.
Laban married Mary Jane Way and had two children, Lillie and Frederick in
La Porte County. The date of Laban's burial in the IGI record is August 3,
1862. If there is a grave for Laban in La Porte, then my ancestor is not
who I thought he was.
I have a Laban H. Dunham in my family. According to the Civil War muster
records, he was a native of Liberty, Union Co., IN. He joined the military
on August 13, 1862 in Decatur, IL. My Laban mustered out and returned to
Decatur where he married Rachel Beatty Kingsley and later Malinda Pound.
His obituary can be found in the September 4, 1892 edition of The Daily
Review (Decatur, IL) The obit doesn't mention his parents or siblings. My
Laban is buried in Macon County, IL.
If you have access to La Porte County death or cemetery records, will you
look for a record of a Laban H. Dunham death or gravesite? If there is no
gravesite in La Porte, then maybe the Laban of La Porte and the Laban of
Decatur are the same man. Thank you for the assistance.
