Notes for KELLEY PADDOCK:
Herald Chronicle, June 17 1880, "GALENA" - The second son of Mr. S.T.
Paddock, of Three Oaks township, a bright, intelligent, young man, has
been a sufferer for more than four months, taken first with congestion
of the lungs, lingering until an abscess gathered in his side and
finally broke. He is now improving slowly.

Notes for WENDELL PADDOCK:
Wrote, " Brief History of the James Paddock Family." Six pages,
typewritten, dated may 20, 1936. A copy of this history was given to
Richard S Paddock by Barbara Burns of Bedford TX, in August 1996. She is
the daughter of Marjorie Zahn (a distant cousin of Richard S. Paddock) who
in 1996 lived in Highland Park, IL. Wendell taught at Ohio State
University. He was a well known horticulturist (listed in Who's Who in
America, etc.) In the 1950s, while stationed at the Pentagon, Richard S.
Paddock visited Wendell's daughter, Elizabeth Highby, in Silver Springs,
Maryland.
4. MORRISON PADDOCK Settled on his farm (sec. 13) .5 mile East of father
James' home, on the south side of Paddock road. ; P.O., Three Oaks, Mich.;
is a son of the preceding (James Paddock) and was born April 22, 1835, in
Onondaga county, N.Y.; he was married Nov 25, 1866, to Amanda Tuttle, who
was born Dec. 7, 1840, in Milwaukee, Wis., and died 1911. Mr. P. served
three years in Co. G, 9th Ill. Cavalry. He owns 80 acres of No. 1 land.
For several years he served as township trustee and took an active part in
public affairs.
Amanda Tuttle, was a daughter of Joseph E. and Harriet (Fay) Tuttle, the
former a native of Vermont, and the latter of Ohio, and they were the
parents of five children, of whom Mrs. Paddock is the third. She was
reared in Milwaukee until nine years of age when her parents removed to
Ozaukee, Wisconsin, where the succeeding five years of her life were passed.
She then came to LaPorte county with the family of Mr.
Godfrey. As the years passed two children were added to the household;
James, who is yet at home; and Annie, who is now the wife of Fred Russ, a
resident of South Bend, Indiana.
5. ANDREW H. PADDOCK was born July 20, 1837 in Galena, LaPorte CO, IN, and
died July 21, 1906. He married (1) ELLEN E. RAY April 06, 1860. She was
born October 1839 in Ohio, and died April 06, 1863. Their child was
Schuyler C. Mrs. Paddock died April 6, 1863, and
Mr. P. married (2) Lizzie K. Butler Feb. 9, 1865, who was a native of Maine,
and born May 2, 1848. Their 3 children were Bessie, Ada E. and Sherman.
Andrew's second wife, Elizabeth Butler, was the sister of Wendell Paddock's
Mother.
Mr. P. owned 71 acres, on sec. 12."
His farm was about .5 miles east of his father James, on the north side of
the road, across from Uncle Mott (Morrison) Paddock.
6. LUCETTA(LUCETTE) PADDOCK was born May 24, 1847 in Galena TWP, Indiana,
and died April 11, 1932 in Baldwinsville, NY at son's home (Kelley Smith).
She married WOODSON SMITH 1872.
The following is an obituary published in the Three Oaks, MI paper shortly
after Lucetta's death:
LUCETTA SMITH 85, BURIED MONDAY
Funeral services for Mrs. Lucette Paddock Smith, age 85, were held from the
Methodist Church in Three Oaks, Monday afternoon at 2 P.M., the Rev. Leon
Manning officiating.
Mrs. Smith died at the home of her son, Kelley Smith in Baldwinsville, New
York, Friday morning (April 11, 1932).
The deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Paddock, and she
was born on a farm four miles south of Three Oaks, Where she spent her
girlhood. Her parents were pioneer settlers of this community and the
Paddock family established a settlement in the community four miles south of
here.
She is survived by a son Dennis, Wilmette, Ill.,besides the son, at whose
home she passed away. Also three grandchildren, Dorothy, Kermit, and
Marjory Smith. Her husband, Wood Smith died here about 16 years ago.
The deceased was a member of the Posey Chapel M. E. Church and a member of
the Three Oaks D.A.R. society.
She has lived in this community her lifetime, until a few months ago went
she went to New York to make her home with her son. Her many friends in
this community will mourn her passing.
