In response to the two recent querries posted here regarding lookups
in the LaPorte Co. Census, I have the following information from the
FHL Fiche #60-48-279 which is an index of heads of households in the
1860 census.

Subject: Census lookup
O live on the island of Guam. Could someone please lookup the census of
1860 and see if William Brashing in La Porte city in La Porte County is
listed and with whom in the houssehold? Trying to fill in some gaps.
Landed in U>S. from Germany in Feb. 1858 on ship Sir Robert Peel in the
Brandenburg emigration and settled in Conn where enlisted in Civil War
in 1863 and died in 1864. This came as a surprise to see him listed in
Ind. census. It is ID #IN2324772.
Thank you so much. Carolyn on island of Guam
Carolyn, there is a William Brashing, age 26, living in LaPorte City
in the 1860 census. The place of birth shown is "GR" which is not
an abreviation listed in the birthplace key for the index. Further
(and more accurate) information should be found on page 073 of the
1860 census schedule for Laporte City, Center Twp, LaPorte County, IN.

Subject: RYAN
David RYAN and Mary RYAN both from Ireland lived in LaPorte, had a son
Michael b. in LaPorte 1857, and a daughter Mary Anne b.Plymouth 1861. Need
to know when David and Mary came to LaPorte before 1861.Need David's birth
year - perhaps a census from 1850 could be checked. Thank you for any help.
There also was another child but I don't have a name. If someone can
check a census for this, I'd be most appreciative. Linda
Linda, there are no "RYAN"s shown in the head of household index, however
there are three "RYON"s and one "RYONS".
Name age bplc loc page on census
Ryon, John 22 IR MI 460
Ryon, Lucy 18 IR MI 415
Ryon, M 25 <unk> MI 457
Ryons, Allen 25 IR LC 112
IR = Ireland
MI = Michigan (no differentiation between the city and township)
LC = LaPorte City
In the 1874 Plat Book, there is a "C. Ryan" with 10 acres in Section 18
bordering Cass TWP. There is a T. Ryan in Cass Twp section 30, about 6
miles from the other Ryan. Both of those Ryans are gone from those parcels
in the 1892 plat book.
[nothing on Brashing observed in the Plat books.]
