From Newspaper Gleanings:
Jaunuary 15, 1851
DEATH: On the 29th of December 1850, our much esteemed friend and
brother, DAVID G. OAKS, after a long and painful illness, quitted the
"earthly house of this tabernacle" and as we most firmly believe,
entered into possession of the "building of god in the heavens." Our
departed brother was born at Stephenville, Renssalaer County, State of
New York, April 16th ??? ? made a public profession of religion in the
year 1835 ? entered upon the work of the ministry and became a member
of the annual Conference of the Methodist Protestant Church in the city
of New York in 1836. He came to this State in 1837. At the first
organization of the Michigan Conference of that body, he became a
member thereof, removing his membership from New York, and ever since
to the time of his departure, with but a few exceptions, his whole life,
even to the sacrifice of his natural life, was in the holy world of his
choice. [Original is lengthy: Administrator of the Estate was HENRY
G. OAKS]
