I just found out that my g-g-g-grandfather Allen Dolph is buried in the
Westville Cemetery, April 16, 1899. Listing on-line says no dates - Civil
war solider. He was a member of the 12th Michigan Inf. His CW pension
files had that he died at Westville - but LaPorte Co Clerk could not find
death record. Last break in the weather, I walked the cemetery - but did
not locate the grave. I assume that it must have a military stone - I
wonder if the local VFW or American Legion might be able to assist in
locating the actual grave???
Does anyone know how to contact the Sexton of the Westville Cem? I would
like to see if they have any records/ or listing that might give some more
info. Pension records state that Allen Dolph was living with his nephew,
Nijah Dolph, in Jackson Twp, Porter County - post office Westville, LaPorte
Co IN.... Also, in the CW pension file statements are given by John and
Fred Tennis (Tenis) also of Jackson Twp, Porter Co -- early in 1899 telling
about Allen Dolph's disabilities..... The state that they have known Allen
Dolph since the end of the war - 30 some years -- I would be interested in
who they are. Allen Dolph enlisted from Berrien County. He lived before
and after the war in Galien, and Three Oaks -- then in 1875 moved to
Iowa.... Then later, moved east to Indiana... where he passed away....
Any assistance appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Dorothy
