I would guess the parents were living in Bloomfield or Clay Township.
--John (1779-1862) and Elizabeth Carney (1778-1854) are buried in
Hoagland Cemetery.
--In 1850 the young child John Hively was living with John and Elizabeth
Carney in Clay Twp.
--I'm assuming finding a will is very unlikely as Emanuel died an
accidental death according to the story passed down from descendents of
John Hively. A LaGrange court record in the placement of the children
is a possiblity.
--I was unable to find Emanuel Hively in the 1840 census. And neither
Lucinda or Emanuel Hively are found in
findagrave.com
I also think it is very unlikely Lucinda (Carney) Hively is a daughter
of John and Elizabeth Carney.

The WPA indexed birth and deaths but the dates are about 1887 -

Marriage records are available earlier from various sources as are
probate records(at the court house). There is a LaGrange Co. cemetery
book which may have some information for you. I do not have a copy. Do
you know where they might have been living in the county? I will pass
this on to a friend in LaGrange.

Subject: [INLAGRAN] LaGrange birth & death records 1840-1850
Do birth, death, burial, or probate records exist for LaGrange county
for the period of 1840-1850?
I have the Nov 18, 1841 marriage record of Emanuel Hively who married
Lucinda Carney in LaGrange County.
In 1843 they had a son Miles Benjamin Hively born in 1843 in Indiana
according to his Civil War registration.
On June 15, 1845, (or June 15, 1846) they had a second son John Hively,
born in LaGrange according to his Civil War pension papers.
I'm assuming both parents died before the 1850 census as Miles B. Hively
is living with his maternal grandmother in Noble Co., Indiana, and John
Hively is living with the elderly couple John and Elizabeth Carney in
Clay Township, LaGrange County in the 1850 census.
The family story passed down in John's family was Emanuel Hively was
killed when a tree he was cutting fell on him.
Thanks for any help or suggestions,
Bonnie Weisel
