Thank you Judy and RB for your research and suggestions! William and Matilda Martin are
in the 1850 and 1870 census records in Lagrange, Indiana. The 1850 says in Milford and
the 1870 in Johnson Twp., Lagrange with their children. It lists William and Matilda as
being born in Ohio. However, by 1880 their daughter Emily Jane marries an Amajiah/Amaziah
Gravott/Gravatt/Gravotte and live in Milford. Amaziah and Emily move to Michigan where my
gr. grandmother, Susie(Susan)Gravott is born in Manton. Amaziah dies and Emily re-marries
a Daniel Sidler. They are in the 1900 census together, and by the 1910 census records
she is a widow and both state Park, Saint Joseph, Michigan. In THOSE census records it
says Emilys father, William, was born in Pennsylvania for the earlier census and Iowa for
the latter. Emily's mother, Matilda, says was born in Iowa for the 1900 census and
the 1910 census says Ohio. It is just totally confusing. I know they are the same
families by the n!
ames and dates and the children listed not to mention by my grandmother and gr.
grandmother. I do not know where William and Matilda went. I am assuming they may have
left Indiana or died after 1880 or shortly before. Some researchers in my family said
Matilda's maiden name may have been Fish and was from Ashland, Ohio. I have
researched records there and contacted genealogists there and have found no records of her
birth there. William was supposedly born in 1816 and Matilda in 1825.
