Searching for parents and/or siblings of Jacob KEGLEY (CAGLEY) in or near Lagrange County,
Indiana in mid to late 1860’s – about 1880, maybe later...
Jacob KEGLEY married Mary Jane BRADLEY in Lagrange County, Indiana on 22 May 1869 in a
ceremony where Justice of the Peace Thomas G. STARKEY officiated. I cannot find the
couple listed in the the 1870 or 1880 census records I am able to access remotely.
I cannot find any background on Mary Jane at this point either although I did find a 10
year old Mary Jane BRADLEY enumerated in the household of Charles and Betsy TURNER in
Lagrange County, Indiana in 1860 but no relationship or status is listed for Mary to the
Turners. I imagine this could be the Mary Jane BRADLEY who married Jacob as it would make
her 18 or 19 in May of 1869 when the marriage to Jacob occurred.
There is also a marriage 12 Feb 1880 in LaGrange County, Indiana for Mary Jane KEGLEY to
Gideon HARRIS...whether this is actually Mary Jane KEGLEY or Mary Jane (BRADLEY) KEGLEY I
have not yet determined.
Mabel May KEGLEY ended up in Harvey County, Kansas where she married Illinois born Thomas
RUICK. They had eight children in Kansas and moved to Pueblo County, Colorado before 1930
and remained there until their deaths.
I know there are many KEGLEYS (sometimes spelled CAGLEY) in Indiana in the 19th century as
they migrated from Wythe County, Virginia into southern and east central Indiana in the
1820’s. Many of them migrated on into Iowa and some descendants are still in Indiana
today. The largest concentration of the family was in the White River area of Johnson
County.
Any help resolving the question of about Jacob KEGLEY and who his family was would be
greatly appreciated. I feel certain he has to fit into my group somewhere!
Please respond to me directly at justpeachy(a)greenhills.net as well as to the group.
