Thanks Peg,
Great info. I'll check with the Sturgis Library & see if I can get an ILL.
I appreciate your help,
Jim

Jim,
The LaGrange Standard has been published since at least 1857 (still is today) so that
would not help. I do not know if there were any other papers in that area that early. Howe
is not far from Sturgis, Michigan so you might try there.
The LaGrange library has microfilm of the LaGrange Standard and I believe the Indiana
State Library (in Indianapolis) has also.
The Sturgis papers would be at the Sturgis Public Library and at the Library of Michigan
at Lansing.
I have used these sources but unfortunately I am not near any.
Peg

Subject: [INLAGRAN] LaGrange Cemeteries
Hi,
I'm looking for information on Gordon Chapin, listed below. Were death
records kept that early and was there a local newspaper that would have
carried his obituary that is now on microfilm? Gordon lived in
Bloomfield at the time of the 1850 census.
Cemeteries of LaGrange County Indiana 1832-1982
prepared by Robert & Leonore Current, and
Published by LaGrange County Historical Society copyright 1984
Chapin, Gordon, pg. 439
Gordon Chapin, aged 69 yrs., died Feb. 22, 1855 and is buried in
Riverside Cemetery in Howe, Lima Twp., LaGrange Co., Indiana. His stone
is in Row 2, Plot #29 of the southeast section. (The southeast section
is east of the tool house, south of the second drive, and numbered north
to south.)
Thanks so much,
Jim
