I want tol thank you for responding to my email on the Washington Adams
family. My wife has 2 different Hill families in her tree. One was Laura
Hill who married Washington Adams in Lagrange county, IN. She was the
daughter of Dr Moses J Hill and his wife Betsey Winslow. The other was
Emily G. Hill the daughter of Roland R Hill and his wife Susan (Kassen)
Hill. That family lived in Fayette Ohio in Fulton County. Not sure if that
HILL family ties in with your OH Hills. You can view my tree on
Ancestry.com. Perry ^ Barbara Adams family tree.
Thanks again for your help.

Hi Perry,
This is really a total long shot but as I was reading your email I
noticed that there are some similarities between your family and some of
mine. Maybe this can help pinpoint where your Washington Adams was born
in OH. This probably won't turn out to be anything but here it is
anyway...you never know. I once broke a brick wall by searching county
by county in Ohio for my ancestor's parents. I knew of no siblings and
I had no other clues other than her age and that she was born in OH.
The surname was Harper and her name was Elizabeth...very common. So,
never say never, just keep looking.
My ancestors with the last name of "Hill" were also in Ohio (I see you
have Hills too). Joseph Hill settled in Champaign County, Ohio around
1802. Prior to this I believe he was in Mason County, KY for a brief
period. He was born in Berkeley Co., Virginia in 1779.
Members from his family (a son, Joseph Jr. and a daughter, Julia Ann
Hill-Harper along with related members) moved to Indiana. I believe
some went there prior to 1850 though I don't know how early. Julia Ann
Hill-Harper's family was living in LaGrange, Johnson Twp., Indiana in
1850. They moved briefly to Warren Co., IL before going back to
Champaign Co., OH. In Ohio Julia's son William Harper married a girl
and they settled in Muscatine Co., IA along with many others that were
in some way related.
Perhaps this was just a common migration route but I have no idea.
However, I would check for Washington Adams in Champaign County, OH.
Mad River, Urbana, Concord...that area. The little town mine were from
was called Westville.
Good luck and happy hunting!

John Adams family or at least connected to that family. My Washington was
born in Ohio in 1811. I do not know where in Ohio but this information
came from several different census years. However, in 1832 Washington
married Laura Hill in Lagrange county IN. Laura was the daughter of Dr.
Moses Hill and his wife Betsey Winslow. Washington and Laura had 3
children born in Lagrange, IN. Mary J., Martha, and Moses I. Adams. Prior
to 1861 Washington moved his family to Mt Carroll IL where in 1861
daughter Mary J married Andrew Jackson Christian. In 1863 Washington
passed away in Mt Carroll, IL. By any chance is there an obituary marking
his death?
Later, son Moses I moved to Iowa.
Living nearby Washington and Laura in the 1840 census in Lagrange IN was a
family of John Adams who may have been Washington’s parents or at least
related to him. This John Adams family lived in both NY and Michigan and
may have lived in Ohio around 1811 before moving to Lagrange IN. John and
his wife had a large family and some of them moved to Muscatine county
Iowa around 1837. Washington’s son, Moses I Adams moved there as well from
Mt Carroll, IL.
With all of this, I hope some Adams family researcher can add information
that will confirm and add to the information I have on this family.
Washington Adams is my wife’s side of the family. Thank you for your help.
