Olmstead LEWIS was in Greenfield Twp. in 1840, but I haven't been able
to get the census to see if he had a living wife or a 19 year old
daughter. You see, I'm hoping the Emily LADD living with him is a
widowed daughter, because an Emily LADD m. Anson CLARK in LaGrange in
1854, which is the closest reference to my ancestor William D. CLARK's
parents (b. 1859, LaGrange to Anson CLARK & Emily LEWIS) I've been able
to find.
Olmstead also married that year to Hiley Reynolds. In the 1860 census,
he's moved to Perry Twp., Noble Co., has a wife Philaam (Hiley
misheard?), and only Lafayette at home.
There's a Harry OMSTEAD in LaGrange who became quite prominent. There
was also a Lewis OLMSTEAD in Aurelius, Chautauqua Co., NY, who was
important. Relative? Just someone to name your kid after, like
Lafayette? Pure coincidence?
Jan, where in New York did Samuel come from? Do you know? BTW, William
CLARK went to work for the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad. There's an
Anson D. Clark in Lenawee. An Anson bought land in Monroe and Branch
Co., MI. Are we hearing "Twilight Zone" music yet?
Aloha, Kathleen
