The last query started me on a full day of research starting in Lagrange county.
For folks who don't know already, Indiana' GENWEB project is one of the best, if
not THE best around. Each county has their own site and there is a wealth of information
on there.
Indiana must have had a big sesquentenial celebration at the turn of the century, because
there are local histories and biographies compiled in the late 1800's for just about
every county. Since copyright laws didn't not begin until the 1920's, these books
have been transcribed and posted on line for all of us to see. I've found wonderful
biographies for long lost relatives.
Many of the sites have been systematically putting cemetery records on line as well.
USgenweb/IN/lagrange.com is just starting this project, but there are a few on line and
also lists of folks willing to do look-ups for those of us who live some distance away.
Well worth investigating, if you haven't already, and going back to because
there's always new information being added.
All free.
