Hi Alfred:
I have not been able to really pin down Dr. Moses J. Hill's family.
There seems to be several HILL families in that NY area at that time who
might be his parents. I do know that he came from an educated family,
so the fact that your family were teachers and engineers might be a
connection.
Moses J Hill was a frontier Doctor in the 1830s in Lagrange county
Indiana. On the census he showed his birth place as NY and his wife
birth in CT. It looks like his wife's name was Betsey. We think that
Moses' middle name was Jones. So it is possible his mother or
grandmother may have had the maiden name of Jones. He gave one of his
sons the middle name of Newell, so that is another possibility for a
family name.
I have a date of Mose's birth as 30 Jan 1783 in stephentown, NY. The
names of his children are:
Moses Newell Hill born 24 Jul 1811 NY
Slocum Hill about 1812
Marvin Jones Hill 27 Apr 1813
Laura Hill born 28 May 1815 - (Laura married Washington Adams in 1832 in
Lagrange County IN.)
Hiram H. Hill born 17 Apr 1819
Eliza Hill born 24 Apr 1824.
All children were born in NY.
I hope that we can find some other researchers who are looking at some
of these other children who may help in connecting Moses Jones Hill to
his proper parents and ancestors.

Mr. Adams, I cannot give you the specific info you are seeking
however
I to am searching for info on Hill families in the Genesee Cty. area.
My gg grandmother Mary Hill b 1796, she said in Ontario Cty, married
(about 1818) my gg grandfather Alfred Collins b 1795. They lived in
the Towns of Caledonia and York near the village of Fowlerville.
Because
of county boundary changes over the years they lived in Ontario, Genesee
and Livingston counties without changing their place of residence in
what is now the town of York. I have not been able to find who the
ancestors or siblings were in Marys family. Some of her Hill relatives
lived in the same general area. There were one or more male Hills who
were civil engineers who laid out roads and boundaries in York and
Caledonia and one or more females who were schoolteachers. Since seeing
your query I have been wondering if your Moses Hill might be related to
my Mary Hill? Do you know the names of Moses ancestors or Siblings?
