Message Board Post:
I am looking for the family of William Williams born about 1835 somewhere in
hio. Family rumors say that his family is of Welsh ancestry. It's possible his
ather or grandfather migrated here to the United States from Wales. I have very
ittle to go on. Only that he at one time lived in Fawn River twp, in St. Joseph
o. MI, with wife Frances Edgeton born in PA, and 1 month old daughter
harlotte. I found them in the census. Below this household is a lady by the
ame of Adaline Williams age 52 who was born in Ohio as well, as was Harvey
illiams age 18, living with her. Then also with her are younger children, Ann
ughs age 4, Hiram Hughs age 1 and then John Halsey age 3.
n this same page is a family, Sanford and Catharine Halsey with young children.
hen one other interesting family is the Adam Miller family, who's children all
ave similar names to the future grandchildren of William Williams.
y 1868, William and Frances Williams had my gr. grandfather, Alfred Colfax
illiams. Alfred never really knew where he was born, this was evident on future
ensus, with him saying he was born in MI, IN, and even IL. My father remembers
tories he told about Coldwater MI, and how he said that's where he was from.
could not find this family in the 1870 census, and by 1874 I found Frances
dgeton Williams had married another man in Buchanan County, IA by the name of
dward B. Dusenbury. Her records indicated she was widowed. Frances then died in
879 leaving young Alfred living with his Aunt Harriet Edgeton Sayles in Boone
ounty, IA. Alfred eventually returned to Buchanan Co. to live near his younger
ister, Effie Dusenbury, and then married Emma Butters Obrien, remaining in
uchanan Co. Iowa the remainder of his life.
nother family rumor was that one morning William Williams went to work as a
ogger on the river in Michigan never to return, and it was presumed he met with
fatal accident, his remains never recovered.
f anyone knows of any connections with the above names, found in the census,
'd appreciate the help. The one thing that always remained the same in future
ensus on Alfred Colfax Williams was that his father was born in Ohio and mother
orn in PA. Frances' family members had lived around this same vicinity,
aGrange IN, Coldwater MI, St. Joseph Co. MI. Perhaps the Williams families and
dgeton family went back as far as PA.
'm running out of directions to turn, and need some help.
hank you,
haron Corcoran of Buchanan Co. Iowa
