Message Board Post:
I just came across an article in the Fort Wayne newspaper of Sept. 26, 1917 about the
night before when a stranger lured away the husband and then returned to the same home and
assaulted the wife.
AS this took place in Lagrange County and involved people I believe are relatives, I am
very interested to find out more about it.
Excerpts from the article follow:
"Lagrange County Woman Is Brutally Assaulted Last Night
(Special to the News)
Lagrange, Indiana- Luring her husband away two miles from his home, and then driving John
Poynter's own horse back to his house a stranger, believed to live just across the
Michigan line from Lagrange County line, last night brutally assaulting Mrs.
Poynter."
The article goes into more details, which I won't do here.
Are there any newspapers of Lagrange County that might tell of this event? My
grandmother's foster parents (also her great-aunt and great-uncle) were John and Mary
(Polly) (Gohn) Poynter of Shipshewana, Lagrange County.
I'm trying to find out if this might be them.
