In case you didn't get my reply...I'm wondering if Olmstead Lewis b. 1799 is the
same as our Alpheus Lewis b. 1799...because of the following reasons.
Hi,
I think that it is so interesting that our families were in the same places at about the
same time. Thomas Lewis went to what is Clarence, Erie Co., NY ca. 1820...and his brother,
Reuben Lewis, was also there in 1820. Another brother, James, also went to Erie Co., NY.
Reuben moved on...and bought land in LaGrange Co., Ind. on 23 Jan 1843 from James Campbell
and on 10 Sept. 1844 from a Charles Horn. (Reuben is my husband's direct ancestor).
Their brother, ALPHEUS, born 1799, disappears from record after their father, James',
Will in Tompkins Co., NY in 1818.
We believe that Reuben died in LaGrange Co., and his wife, and some of the children moved
on to Iowa. His son, Sylvester, my husband's line, went in the Gold Rush to California
after his wife died in Porter Co., Indiana. His son, James, my husband's Great
Grandfather was sent back to Ohio with maternal relatives, then moved to Michigan with
maternal relatives.
In LaGrange Co., one of Reuben's daughters, Elizabeth, married in 1846 to James Randol
of Milford Twp. So the family was there for a few years. They moved on to Porter Co.,
Indiana and then to Iowa.
I'll keep digging. Helen Lewis
