Would appreciate suggestions and tips for searching
the LaGrange Co death records for the years 1845-1850.
I am looking for Emanuel HIVELY and his wife Lucinda
COREY / CORREY / CORY. Evidence suggests they died
young, leaving two young sons who were separated and
put into an orphanage and/or with foster parents.
Emanuel Hively (b. Apr 13, 1821 Fairfield Co. Ohio)
married Lucinda Corey on Nov 18, 1841 in LaGrange Co.
They are known to have had two children:
Miles B. Hively, born 1844 IN
John Hively, born June 15, 1845 IN
-Emanuel Hively is not to be found in the 1850 Lagrange
census index, nor in any 1850 index for IN, MI, WI, IO,etc.
-I have not been able to find any evidence of the children
Miles and John Hively in the 1850 census
-Family legend passed down from his son John said "the
father was cutting down a tree and it fell on him, killing
him" and "the mother died when the children were young".
-Miles B. Hively is in the Richland Co, WI 1860 census index,
and he died 1864 at Camp Randall, Madison, WI training
for the Civil War. He left one newborn son,
Miles B. Hively Jr.
-John only knew he had a brother, but never learned what
happened to him. Evidently the children were split up at
a very young age.
It would also be useful to know if there exist birth records
for LaGrange Co. for the years 1842-1850.
thanks for your comments,
