Another Soldier Gone
William T. Hissong Answers To The Last Roll Call
William T. Hissong, for several years the Valley Line
passenger and freight agent at Mongo, died last Friday
evening, at his home, after an illness of only a few hours,
from acute indigestion.
The funeral services were at the Mount Zion Lutheran
church, at LaGrange, at eleven o'clock Tuesday morning,
with burial at Greenwood cemetery. Mr. Weber, the pastor,
was in charge.
Mr. Hissong was born in Knox county, Ohio, February 10, 1846,
and was in his sixty-eighth year.
He enlisted in the Union army, as a private in Company C,
Fourth Indiana cavalry, at the age of eighteen, in February, 1864,
and he served until the close of the war.
He was married November 3, 1869, to Fietta Walter and
was the father of five children, Frank M., Irene, Vernon E.,
George H. and Blanche.
Two of his children, Frank M. Hissong of Moberly, Missouri,
and Mrs. E.T. Buckmaster of Bluffton, Ohio, with the widow, are
the surviving members of the family.
Mr. Hissong also leaves one brother, Captain George W. Hissong
of LaGrange, two sisters, Mrs. N.A. Warren of Elkhart and
Mrs. Windbigler of Plymouth, and nine grandchildren.
Those who knew Mr. Hissong well will remember him as a
man of kindness, candor and integrity. He freely gave to his country
and its flag when the gift meant much. He was loyal to friendships,
in harmony with God's great outdoors, and he loved life and all
that life means to an intensely human man.
After life's fitful fever may he sleep well.
