Donald L. CARMICHAEL, 66, LaGrange, died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at his home. He was
born February 13, 1933, in Vincennes, the son of Harley E. and Hazel (ANDERSON)
CARMICHAEL. He spent his lifetime in the Columbia City and LaGrange area, except while
living in Texas for five years from 1980 to 1985. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having
served in the Korean Conflict. He worked in the timber business for 23 years and then
retired from Colwell General in the Bagging Dept. He was a member of the Eagles in
Albion, and the V.F.W. in Sturgis, Mich. He was married May 1965, in Albion, to Judith
BAXTER. She survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Chris (Dawn) BOHNERT,
LaPorte, Robin CHRISTENSEN, Michigan City, Mrs. Walter (Deb) GOOD, Auburn, and Mrs. Randy
(Donna) AKERS; four sons, Donald CHRISTENSEN, Elkhart, Dan CARMICHAEL, Avilla, Darren
CARMICHAEL, La Grange, and Eugene COFFELT, Jr., Columbia City; six sisters, Mrs. Ernest
(Kathryn) NEILL, Clearwater, Fla., Ruby !
FREDERICK, Ingleside, Tex., Alice MARKS, Kendallville, Mrs. Norman (Mary) AKERS,
Schererville, Mrs. Donald (Carol Joanne) POTTER, Cedar Lake, and Mrs. Marvin (Sharon)
GARRINGER, Kendallville; six brothers, William C. (Clete), Avilla, Johnnie, LaGrange,
Jack, Rensselaer, Norman, Kendallville, Kenneth and Phillip, both of Logansport; one
stepsister, Karen COLLAR, Fort Wayne; one stepbrother, Randy COLLAR, Syracuse; and 11
grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother,
Beatrice TRIMMER CARMICHAEL; a daughter, Janet
CARMICHAEL; a step-sister, Shirley TIPTON; a stepbrother, Harley CARMICHAEL. The funeral
was Saturday at DeMoney-Gries Countryside Funeral Home, Columbia City, with Pastor Richard
Carmichael officiating. Burial is in South Park Annex Cemetery, Columbia city. source:
