I can't wait to visit Brownsville and the museum and cemetery there.
Here is a portrait of Rachel Nye. It must have been taken between when Washington became a
state in late 1889 and 1893. The inscription on the back reads: "Rachel Nye
Blain". Photographer's stamp reads "H.W. Green, Spangle -- Wash".
Rachel married Henry A. Hulbert a short time later. He died in Nov of 1894. In 1900 US
Census, Rachel was listed as "servant" in the Charles D. Lack household in
Rosalia, Whitman County, WA (about 10 miles south of Spangle, Spokane County, WA). She is
buried in the Spangle Cemetery, listed on Henry's headstone as his second wife. I have
to poke around a bit to find a pic of their headstone.
