Donald Ferguson, 94, died Saturday, October 3, 2009, at Crystal Care Center of Mansfield,
Ohio after an extended illness.
Donald was born June 3, 1915, in Warsaw, Indiana, to the late Bishop Wayman Ferguson and
Viola Skeen-Ferguson. He made Mansfield his home.
He attended Tuskegee University and was the first black to own and operate a shoe repair
shop here in Mansfield, Ohio. He was chosen as The Man of The Year Award, from the City of
Mansfield; and a life long member of Mitchell Chapel AME Church; where he served as a
steward and song in the choir. He had many interests, loved politics, music, reading,
sports, leather work and shoe repairing. He loved to talk to the people on different
topics; he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He leaves to cherish in his memory brother, Arnold Ferguson, of Mansfield, Ohio; special
nephews, Kevin A Jackson and Erwin F. Jackson, of Sandusky, Ohio; a host of nephews,
nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Jack, Wayman, Theodore, Richard
and Pete; one sister, Charlotte.
The services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2009. Calling hours are one
hour prior to the services at Small's Funeral Services, 326 Park Ave. W., with Rev.
Brandon Davis officiating.
Burial will follow at Mansfield Cemetery.
The family has entrusted Small's Funeral Services with the arrangements.
