Message Board Post:
The Pierceton and Washington Township Library is copying photos of Pierceton, Wooster,
Sidney, Kinzie, Dodgertown, and Packerton and the townships of Washington, Monroe, and
Jackson in Kosciusko County, Indiana. The idea is to digitize images that are scattered
all over the country, catalog them, and make them available on the web at the
"Indiana Memory" site. (
http://www.in.gov/memories/). Join "Memories of
Pierceton" on Facebook or see a sampling here:

As we approach Pierceton's 150th anniversary in 2016, we're saddened to learn that
the wonderful photographs made and copied for the centennial edition of The Pierceton
Press have not been saved. Let's do it right this time and save this history for
future generations.
The project is phase one of the Whitko Community Digital Image Project, co-sponsored by
the Pierceton Library and the South Whitley-Cleveland Township Public Library, in
collaboration with the Kosciusko County Historical Society. Phase two begins in the summer
of 2011 and will focus on Cleveland and Richland Townships in Whitley County.
We hope to hear from you!

HOW TO CONTRIBUTE:
HELP IDENTIFY PEOPLE AND PLACES on Facebook and Flickr giving names, dates, addresses,
etc. Leave a comment under each photo.
SHARE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS, DOCUMENTS, MAPS: Do you or your parents or grandparents have
photographs or documents of this area? We're looking for street scenes, buildings and
houses, churches, businesses, aerial photos, postcards, school photos, people shots,
farms, clubs and organizations, etc. Usually, we do not copy portraits unless they are
interesting or show someone well known (a teacher, business owner, doctor, preacher, etc.)
If you are near Pierceton we can scan the photos for you. Call (574) 594-5474 or email
heritagephotoservices(a)gmail.com to schedule a time to scan your photos at the library
while you wait.
SPREAD THE WORD: Many older people who will have the best "stuff" are not
online. Ask for their help, print out some of these photos to share with them, and rummage
through their attics (with their permission, of course). While you're there, write
photo ID's on the backs of their photos...your descendants will thank you.
DONATE MONEY: Your tax-deductible donation to the Pierceton Library will help buy
equipment, supplies, and pay part-time staff. Send checks to The Pierceton Library, P.O.
Box 328, Pierceton, IN 46562.

TECHNICAL JARGON:
HOW TO SCAN: If you'd like to copy your own photos, please scan at 600 ppi
(resolution); use the color (not black and white) setting; do not enhance, crop, or
"Photoshop" the image; and save as a TIFF image (not a JPEG).
PLEASE attach these photos in an e-mail to heritagephotoservices(a)gmail.com, giving caption
information. Questions? Contact me and I'll walk you through it.
