This really isn't the right place to discuss genealogy programs - Have
you contacted Legacy support?
How big is the gedcom? How many people are in it? What's the file size
of the gedcom? I've worked with Legacy files that have over 1,000,000
people in them - they run slow, depending on your computer system, but
Legacy can handle really large files, up to 2 GB in file size (however,
things really start slowing down once the file size hits 1.5 GB
Ancestry doesn't do the best job at creating gedcoms and once it's
imported, there will probably be a lot of issues to resolve. After
fixing the things in the import log you should back up the Family File
(File > Backup file) and run File > File Maintenance > Check/Repair and
then Compact Family File (the check/repair does some compacting, but
the compact goes futher)
If you haven't contacted Legacy support, go ahead and send an email to
Support(a)LegacyFamilyTree.com and mark it for my attention and I'll try
to help you with it.

Quoting Patrick McGarry <hawkwind275(a)yahoo.com>:
Anybody know about another free genealogy program that can open my
ancestry.com
file, besides
Legacy.com freeware? Gedcom I guess is too big because Legacy
always freezes when I go to make a Report. This is angrifying that I already
pay
Ancestry.com a big price, but they want extra money to spend
separate making
Tree books or Descendant Charts. I wont spend that until years when
I retired,
and dont have time to recompose a familytree separate from my already
ancestry.com. I get a discount because of my cousin (who is not
computer savy
to do this kind of stuff. She gets to see what I do since tied into my tree
with discount).
