"I received your letter and have Neglectd to answer. Mother is not well
at present and I fear that She will have a sick Spell that she will not
get over very soon as medicine does not seem to help her. She is able to
be up Part of the time.
"Elias brought my horse and buggy home the next Sunday after You left
here. We have threshed our Cloverseed and got 16 bushels off of 9 1/2
acres. We will sell it tomorrow for $4.40 a bushel.
"The peach crops are in full blast here now. Peaches on some trees here
yet. I was over to to New Paris today to find out what cloverseed was
worth there. Pete Smith and Daniel Fashbaugh was topping corn. We
finished working up our sugar cane today. It made 44 gallons of Molasses
Clear as Honey and so thick you can't cut it with a club.
"There is going to be a big Republican ralley here tomorrow. Cambwck is
going to speak, one of our big Guns. William Alley was hauling poplar
poles for to be raised tonight. The Democrats had a bonfire last night
over the Main Election. They always crow before they are sure they have
to beat for fear they can't have any fun at all.
"Uncle John Mock and and his wife have Parted. She has hauled her goods
down here to her son's. They are going to get a Divorce. Lovina Mock
is married and she is going to going to keep house for him at present.

respectfully transcribed verbatim from the original,
In Frederick Hartline's diary, he refers to the 'baby', Jacob Ulysses.
Jacob is 9 years old. When I was growing up in my parent's home, he was
our next door neighbor, although two residences were separated by a farm
field. Jacob Ulysses Hartline died in 1935 at age 65.
,
I believe 'Uncle John Mock's' 2nd spouse to be Elizabeth Hartzell.
I believe 'Lovina Mock' to be the 10th of 12 chidren of 'Uncle John Mock
and 1st spouse, Lydia Ann Sechrist who died in 1875. 'Lovina Mock'
married Orlando Gerard.
