Sorry, I'm a little late with this.... new grandbaby taking precedence to
genealogy! Here's what it said about the brother of my 3rd
great-grandfather in an obituary from the Indiana Republican, dated 3 Feb
1897. Speaking of William J. Norris, born 1806, it says, " About the year
1850, when the gold excitement of California ran high, he, along with two or
three of his neighbors, started for that far-off country, traveling a good
part of the time on foot, returning in about three years, probably wiser,
but poorer than when he started."

Subject: [INKOSCIU-L] Groups going to search for gold
I am also interested in knowing if there is a list of the Kosciusko
County
men who went to California with a group. My ancestor, Frederick Huff, also
went to search for gold; perhaps he traveled with others from Kosciusko
County. I am not sure what year he went, except that his wife, Eva Ingle,
is listed as having died in 1853 in Turkey Creek Twp., while he was gone.
