To Tom and to Cheryl,
Thank you for your responses. My interest in Silver Lake are my grgrgr
grandmother Mary SHERBONDY who settled near there in the late 1840's. Her
husband was George SHERBONDY, who had died in Pennsylvania many years before.
Mary is buried in the Franklin Cem. I have seen her tombstone.
MARY's unmarried daughter Catherine came with her, and lived with her and
is buried in the Silver Lake cemetery. MARY's son ISRAEL SHERBONDY also came
the same she did. His wife was also named Mary and he had several children.
His and Mary's grave is in the Silver Lake cemetery down by the river--when I
saw it several years ago, it was decorated, so there must be descendants,
though maybe not "Sherbondys" who tend the grave.
There was also another SHERBONDY there, GEORGE SHERBONDY, who appears in
the 1860 census for SIlver Lake. He is the son of ABRAHAM J. SHERBONDY (my gr
gr grandfather and an older brother of ISRAEL). GEORGE SHERBONDY (my gr gr
uncle) was married to PRISCILLA AUKERMANN (his second wife). By the 1870
census they were living in Rochester, IN.
Tom, can you tell me when SILVER LAKE was founded by your family?
Thank you! Jeanette Sherbondy <jeanette.sherbondy(a)washcoll.edu>
