Hi,
I'm still looking for info on Dewarts / Udney Huff/ from Kosciuco. I was
told the Dewart was the one that found Dewart Lake. I am at a standstill with
this part of the family Genealogy. Can anyone help. Carol

Hi, Carol - I live in Greene County OH but I'm from Kosciusko Co, IN so
I am a subscriber to the web. Contact Martha Scearce, (Mrs. donald G.)
at 1940 N. Robb Road, Warsaw IN 46580. Martha was a Whitehead and from
my home town of Syracuse, but I am positive her mother was a Dewart if I
remember my home town 'roots." Her father was the postmaster there. I
can give you a little bit of Dewart genealogy, but not as much as Martha
can. Lewis Dewart owned quite a bit of land on Tingle Lake, later named
Dewart Lake. The Dewarts were from Northumberland Co, Pa. where my
g-g-g-grandfather William Mackey was from, and William Mackey brought
his family to Kosciusko Co. from Greene co, Ohio (where I now live) and
settled in Kosciusko Co. very near to Dewart Lake on the west side and I
would say very near to Lewis Dewart. William Mackey was named by the
state of Indiana in 1989 as one of 3 earliest pioneers in Kosciusko Co.
I lived in Syracuse then. If Martha doesn't answer you, get back to me
and I'll see what else I can find.
