AutoCAD is a program for drafting which utilizes layers, but it is not a
simple thing to make from scratch. If a county surveyor already has this
on some kind of Computer Aided Drafting software, it may not be so hard.

Subject: [INKOSCIU-L] Ideas?
Date: Thursday, September 24, 1998 1:40 PM
I realize this doesn't directly involve Kos. Co. "people" but
I need help with a project that I have considered for several
years.. At least I need help with ideas...
I have always wanted a couple of printable maps of
Kosciusko County... that could be overlaid and be exactly the
same size...and in the same place on the paper...
The maps could be printed out on paper or on transparent
material and would be a BASE map and OVERLAYS.
Base map would be Kosciusko County divided up by
Townships... with Township name in appropriate place... and
appropriate Township and Range Numbers ... in townships and
along the sides. I want the county map to nearly fill the 8
1/2 x 11 sheet of paper... margins of approx. 1 inch on all
sides.
1st Overlay map would take the very same space on the
paper and divide the county into townships and the townships into
tiny sections.... all 36 of them... with a small number in each
section... I would also want the parts of the sections to the
west of the county that are actually in Marshall county to be
represented by lines but no sections outlined in those areas.
Along the west side of Kos. County the townships are actually
only half a congressional township... the rest of the
CONGRESSIONAL township is in Marshall County... i.e. the entire
west half of Twp 34 Range 4 is in Marshall County; I would want
that half represented on the Kos. Co. map but only with an
outline of the township...not broken down into sections.
There would be room on the page for this area... if the map of
Kos. Co. were actually a little off center to the right. The
same is true to the south of Kos. Co. where the bottom half of 3
Congressional Townships and the entire Township 30 Range 4 East
is actually a part of Fulton County. We need to include this,
because at one time a portion of that township belonged to Kos.
Co.
At the same time...I would like a third diagram that would
take a section of land and divide it down into 40 acre plats...
with appropriate descriptions... a square divided into 16
pieces.... with NW SW NE & SE... designations in each piece
of the diagram... so that we could have a sheet that we could
designate where a particular piece of land is in a particular
section...
Another overlay........at a later date that would really
be helpful would be the lakes in the county.... the county lines
would be exactly like the other maps... and this overlay would
show us what sections of land were actually under water....for
example...
My question boils down to what computer program to use to
achieve this..... and is there someone else who would be able to
do this for us in a wink of an eye while it might take me hours
and days to accomplish it!!!!
Would appreciate any ideas you might have.. Thanks in
advance
