"Myself, Lovina and little son, Jacob, left home today to take a journey
West to Indiana to visit Lovina's relatives, the Fashbaughs.
Will took us to Massillon in the Top Carriage. We took the 2:45 pm Fast
Express and we arrived safe in Pierceton at 2 o'clock this morning.
04 Oct 1872
"We took breakfast with Mr Clemens in Pierceton. This afternoon we
took we rode out to Lovina's folks in Uncle John Mock's wagon.
05 Oct 1872
"At my Father-in-Law's he and I went to a public sale across the marsh
west about 1 1/2 mlle. I presented to Pete Smith's children 10cts.
My brother-in-law, Elias Fashbaugh came to Pete Smith's with a buggy to
take us up to his house.
06 Oct 1872
"At Elias Fashbsugh's. We staid there last night. Pete Smith's came
down with the wagon this forenoon and after dinner we went along with
them. We staid all night at Pete Smith's.
07 Oct 1872
"My Father-in-Law took us to Brother-in-Law's Samuel Firestone's this
morning. We stayed there overnight. Then I left again and rode with Mr
Chyle up to Webster in Tippecanoe Twp.
08 Oct 1872
"I was in Webster all day at the Election and took dinner with Abe
Stamets'. I went along home with Samuel Garbers' this evening and after
supper he and I went down to his Mothers for a while. Then we went back
to Webster to hear the result of the Election, but they had not got done
counting yet. We left about 1 o'clock for Sam's house.
09 Oct 1872
"I helped Samuel Garber rake a load of buckwheat together this morning
and took dinner with Uncle John Mocks. John Stanbarger came there also
and I went along home with John. He lives on Mrs McCawley's farm and I
helped him kill a hog this evening.
10 Oct 1872
"John Stanbarger took a load of wood and corn to Warsaw to Mrs
McCawley. I went along with him and we stoppeda at Oswego but had
dinner at Mrs McCawley's. John went home by way of Leesburg. I stopped
off before we got to Leesburg and walked up to Frank Zimmermans. It was
after dark when I got there and stayed overnight with Frank's.
11 Oct 1872
"Frank Zimmerman took me over to Leesburg and we were there until 3
this afternoon. I then left and went out to Emanuel Fashbaugh's about 6
miles northeast of Leesburg.
12 Oct 1872
"Emanuel Fashbaugh and I went to Milford 3 miles west of where he
lives.
13 Oct 1872
"Emanuel hitched rhe wagon and he and I and his wife went out to his
Fathers', Jacob Fashbaugh, about 12 miles southeast. I had not met with
Lovia and little Jacob Ulysses during this time since I left Sam
Firestones' on last Tuesday until I got back to her Father's again
today.
14 Oct 1872
"Pete Smith hitched his wagon and took us to John Kuhn's and Phoebe
(Fashbaugh) Smith went along. We stayed there over night. Joh and Pete
went fishing on the lake tonight. They fishe until 2 o'clock in the
morning and caught a nice lot of bass and one large pike.
15 Oct 1872
"Pete Smith took us down to the Dunkard Love Feast last night 2 miles
north of Webster. We stayed until after the night meeting closed and
returned home about midnight. NB: Pete Smith had Father-in-law's gypsy
wagon. Paid cash for 2 drinks of cider 5 dt, 2 drinks whiskey 10 cts..
2 glasses of peanuts 10 cts, 2 cheeses 10 cts.
16 Oct 1872
"We left my Father-in-law's after dinner and he took us to Ligionier.
We stopped at Uncle George Mock's and took supper there and stayed till
train time. Lovina's father nade her a present of $5. I made a present
to Pete Smiths' children $1. I sent it with Father-in-Law to give to
their mother. I paid cash for 2 tickets to Massillon, Ohio $5. We got
on board the 10:40 Fast Express nignt train. Father-in-Law stayed to se
us take our leave aboard the train.
